What do you do if your wife has b licence and the man has c licence. And you go for a 3850 fiat upgrade whit a extra rear leaf spring, or alko 38 l chassis at 3850 kg. How can you drive this vehicle? The wife 3500 and the man 3850? Can a COC be changed in the Uk, and by whom? In case of weight. Base fiat light whit motor home chassis, and alko high or low frame.

Monique,

In the UK you can only have one or the other, ie the MH is plated under 3,500 kg and only requires a B licence OR it is plated over 3,500 kg and you MUST have a C1 licence.

Drivers with only a B licence cannot drive a vehicle plated over 3,500 kg under any circumstances, even if it actually weighs less than 3,500 kg at the time.

Obviously drivers with both B and C1 licences can drive any vehicle (up to 7,500 kg in the UK).

If you where ordering a brand new MH then most dealers should offer a choice of initial plated weight, ie 3,500 kg or 3,850 kg but if buying used then there are specialist companies who can undertake the paperwork to change the plated weight. SV Tech is one of those companies.

The plate system is completely different in the UK. The major difference being that any weight plate is allowed being technical mass max. But your licence is national related to weight. So replating is not done and you can drive the vehicle whit b or c1 licence., according the driver. Belgium system. In portugal c1 is 4000kg. Be aware that when you drive in belgium that the 5 percent weight tolerance on the road is not allowed, being the only country in the EU to have his rule.

Keithl thank you very much. Is SV tech A COP, conformity of product company which can change the birth certificate whit approval of the original stages?

No, SV Tech are not able to alter the original COP.

They supply a certificate which is accepted by the DVLA, (the UK Government agency responsible for driver and vehicle licensing) to alter the recorded figures for the vehicle and issue a new V5C (logbook).

SV Tech then issue a replacement VIN plate showing the revised weight limits. This has to be affixed to the vehicle alongside the original to show a change has taken place.

That is correct: but belgium the only eu country not not alllowed. Any weight increase requires a new COC, being a new type approval and money. And aproval of the former stages. In case of fiat/ ccs/ alko 3500/3700/3850 on fiat light. All lights run above their limits. The front axle and rear. A good saying is that if you have 3100 dry go for a fiat heavy, on adria van only 500 euro extra. But C!. I raddicaly downsized today to a westfalia kepler one at last of 2800 kg to be uesd as a daily car and being a motorhome. all the rest is ballast of weight and unused space in my present.
