Bolts for arm rest

Recommended Posts

Hi Fluffy,

I think that you have got your sizes wrong. An M3 bolt is 3mm diameter. The bolts securing the arm rests in my PVC, and which I have never had cause to remove, only re-tighten, have 13mm hex heads. This is consistent with DIN standard M8 bolts. There is however that Fiat have used M8 fine thread bolts, which are used on some under body covers etc.

For more details of bolt sizes see attached table.

Welcome to the Out&AboutLive forums, Trevor.

It might be useful to have more details of your Fiat motorhome. Presumably it is based on a Fiat Ducato, but when it was built would be worth knowing and (if appropriate) the motorhome manufacturer's name and the exact model.

I removed the pair of armrests from each of the cab's 'captain's chairs' of my 2015 Fiat Ducato-based Rapido motorhome as soon as I took delivery of the vehicle, putting the armrests back just prior to selling it last year. If I remember correctly, the two bolts that went through the mounting-bracket of each armrest had Torx heads and - as Alan has touched on - the bolts were quite hefty (and bloody tight to undo!) They might well have been M8 size, but I can't check...

This 2019 forum discussion may be of interest - though it doesn't mention the bolt size.

The 1st attached photo shows a (used) armrest advertised as being suitable for a Ducato/Boxer/Relay. The two bolts ('screws') shown have conventional hexagon heads, so the armrest may have come from a pre-2006 vehicle.

The Fiat Part Number for the screws used for the armrests of later Ducatos is 60911354 and (as I said earlier) I think my 2015 Rapido motorhome's twin-armrest seats used screws like the one shown in the 2nd attached photo.

Me too, nice idea in theory but in practise we found the armrests to be useless when driving and a monumental obstruction to getting in and out between the seats so we too took 'em out of every van ever owned!

I would love at least one for my 2002 swift on Ducato, trouble is I can't feel throuth the fabric to locate the holes! Those universal one's may not align with the holes and need the seat drilled, And you can't remove the back panel like on most seats.

If anyone has a suitable rest to sell for drivers side left please let me know?

Thanks ronnie

I suggest you contact for advice the company advertised here

This 2006 forum thread discussed adding armrests to the cab seats of older Boxer/Ducato-based motorhomes and mentioned Wyevern Seating

https://forums.outandaboutlive.co.uk/forums/Motorhomes/Motorhome-Matters/Ducato-Armrests/5419/

As you may be aware, it's possible to obtain armrest mounting 'kits' (example here)

https://forums.outandaboutlive.co.uk/forums/Motorhomes/Motorhome-Matters/Ducato-Armrests/5419/

but (obviously) fitting the kit would involve the seat's upholstery being removed.

I can thoroughly recommend Tony and Wyvern seating. I visited him a few years ago at his house/workshop to have 2 lowered captains seat bases fitted to my Benimar. He is a true gentleman and knows his stuff.

Hi Derek, thanks, not sure I want it that much to strip the seat down! The drivers seat fabric is not great, that would send me on anther mission to try finding a match to the material lol

Thanks Ronnie

Mind you, I'm a fat fecker as well

The OP might be able to get through with the armrests in place :-S

It is interesting that all have different tastes in equipment. I find the "bus driver" position of my Ducato is perfect for my size/shape. I also consider the arm rests to be a real asset & add to the comfort while driving. As Rich used to say "no rights or wrongs just different" cheers,

PS slightly off topic sorry.

Based on earlier comments in this thread, the bolts used for fixing armrests to Ducato seats may have ordinary hex heads or Torx heads (see photos attached to my posting of 23 April 2022 7:45 AM above) depending on when the vehicle was built.

The original poster (Fluffy2) gave no details of his motorhome (other than it being Fiat-based), so it has not been possible to provide specific advice on the bolt size or type. And - as Fluffy2 has not logged on since 22 April - it's likely that this thread has run its course.

Regarding attaching photos to postings, there's guidance in the "Uploading a file or image" posting in this Forums FAQ thread

https://forums.outandaboutlive.co.uk/forums/Code-of-Conduct-and-User-Guidelines/Forum-User-Guide/Forums-FAQ/3930/

As emphasised there, it's vital that the size of the file/image that is to be attached to a posting does not exceed 100 kilobytes.
