stevec176
I somehow managed to trip when getting out of the van and banged my knee on the plastic pocket on the hab door and broke it. Please does anyone know where I can get a replacement?
Derek Uzzell
My 2015 Rapido 640F motorhome has a somewhat similar door (but with a window with sliding privacy blind instead of the upper plastic ‘pocket’). The door is a “METTALARTE” product (marked as such on my door’s window) so you might try contacting this company to see if they can help https://www.scan-terieur.com/metallarte-motorhome-entrance-doors.html Apparently the LIPPERT company acquired Metallarte in 2017 https://www.lci1.com/archive/2017/07/05/lci-industries-acquires-italian-based-manufacturers-metallarte-and-rv-doors/ so contacting Lippert themselves might be another option. https://www.lippertcomponents.eu/category-eu-entry-doors/ I assume you accidentally damaged the door's lower ‘pocket’. As you are aware, this is not designed to be removed and (I’m guessing) may well not be marketed as a spare part. Conversely, as It is potentially pretty vulnerable to damage (and pretty useless for storage!) the Rapido factory might be able to lay their hands on a replacement pocket. Have you tried (say) Highbridge Caravan Centre https://www.highbridgecaravans.co.uk/ as they seem to have a good rapport with the Rapido factory? stevec176
Thanks Derek, I only did yesterday on our way home so haven't managed to do much searching so your links are very welcome. I wasn't sure whether the pocket was removable or not but if you say it isn't then that probably means it's going to be a costly accident. Fingers crossed a solution will occur with some searching and contacting.
stevec176
Big ouch, contacted Highbridge and they also say the pocket can not be replaced and quoted £889.18 for a complete door panel. Think for now it will have to be a drop of glue.
Derek Uzzell
It might be possible to remove the lower pocket. When I attempted to get my Rapido's pocket off to see how easy it might be to clean it out if the need arose, the pocket seemed to have been deliberately 'stuck' firmly in place in the door. As the pocket's plastic material was clearly not that strong, I decided that experimenting with brute force would be a bad idea... If you can get the pocket off, glue it together and then cover it with (say) a piece of tasteful furnishing fabric, that should disguise the damage. stevec176
As they say, if it ain't broke don't fix it, but in my case I'll need to fix it so I can use it safely.
SAlexander
A few owners have had damaged/tired basins remanufactured by a company in the UK - can't remember who, but Derek and others may recall. If the pocket can be removed in one piece, there isn't any reason why a mould can't be taken from this and a new one formed in fibreglass. It wouldn't be cheap, but would certainly be considerably less than £889!
Derek Uzzell
This 2020 forum discussion might help if having a replacement ‘pocket’ made is contemplated. https://forums.outandaboutlive.co.uk/forums/Motorhomes/Motorhome-Matters/Wheel-arches-Autoquest/54947/ I’ve had another look at my Rapido’s door and there are no clues to how the pocket’s plastic front is fixed to the door’s inner liner. Each vertical side of the plastic front turns through 90 degrees and the turned sections then fit tightly within the recess in the door’s liner. There are no visible fixings and no ‘give’ when the top of the plastic front is (gently) flexed. If a narrow tool (eg. a paint scraper) were forced into the vertical joints (green-arrowed on the photo attached below) and adhesive had been used to hold the pocket’s plastic front in the door’s recess, this might allow the front to be removed. Alternatively, if the door’s inner liner were removed and ‘bent’, the pocket’s plastic front might come out. If it were known how the door was manufactured, the best method for removing the pocket’s front would be apparent. But - as I said in my 1st posting above - it’s plain that the door’s design makes no allowance for replacement of the pockets should these become damaged. 747
An alternative could be to repair it in situ using Gorilla 48 mm wide adhesive tape or something like this fixed on the inner surface. https://www.screwfix.com/p/duck-original-cloth-tape-50-mesh-white-25m-x-50mm/92201?_requestid=85178
stevec176
My initial thought was to repair using Gorilla glue and trying to find a piece of plastic to glue to the inside surface. Soon as I can get out to buy the glue I'll get it sorted, at least temporarily. Thanks for all the responses.
