PhilH
I have a 13 plate Auto-Trail frontier Delaware. The driving lights are 6 LED’s forming an arc. Recently 3 have stopped working on the drivers side. A call to auto trail tells me all 6 need replacing at a cost of £350 odd plus vat plus carriage. Ouch. Will this be an MOT failure and is there a cheaper sourcing solution. Help please.
buddy
Have a look at coastalmotorhomes.co.uk you may find them there at a better price.
rayc
These will not be a Fiat part but something Autotrail fitted themselves. My suggestion is to remove the faulty cluster and try to identify the manufacturer and part number of the LED lights. As far as the MOT is concerned i believe, but of course stand to be corrected, that Daylight Running Lights are only required on vehicles first used on or after 1st March 2018 so you could mask them off for the test https://www.gov.uk/guidance/mot-inspection-manual-for-private-passenger-and-light-commercial-vehicles/4-lamps-reflectors-and-electrical-equipment#section-4-2-

Tracker
If all else fails a suitably shaped appropriately coloured reflector can be a good disguise!
Robinhood
You may wish to note the comment on this item here: https://www.olearymotorhomes.co.uk/autotrail-drl-led-surround-ns-3766-p.asp There are only two sets of LED DRLs listed by O'Learys, this one looks like it might be the referenced one: https://www.olearymotorhomes.co.uk/drl-led-day-time-running-light-string-x12-eagle-eyes-12v-3165-p.asp I certainly wouldn't take a chance without querying O'Learys, but £50 for both sides looks a rather better bet. Bogfoldcruiser
It will fail an MOT , if they are fitted they must be operational . I just replaced the ones on both sides on our Carthago as the units were pretty much knackered as well . They were Hella units with 5 LEDs per side @ £170 for a full set . 2PT 010 458-701 HELLA Daytime Running Light Set . Biggest part of the job was removing the bumper to get access . These I think come in 5,6,and and 7 string per side .
Deneb
Bogfoldcruiser - 2020-08-18 8:38 AM It will fail an MOT , if they are fitted they must be operational Assuming the OP is referring to daytime running lamps, they are only testable if they are original equipment lamps fitted to M1 type passenger vehicles (which includes motor caravans) first used on or after 1st March 2018. A faulty "optional" lamp might attract an advisory notice at the tester's discretion.
Derek Uzzell
As Deneb says, and as is clearly stated in the official MOT test documentation. However, I'd disconnect both DRLs prior to the test (and tell the tester I had done so) as it would be better to have both 'non mandatory' DRLs not illuminating than have one fully illuminating (6 leds lit) and the other half-illuminating (3 leds lit). PhilH
Thank you. I may have a solution.
Derek Uzzell
It would be interesting to know what the possible solution is... Robinhood’s posting above (and the image attached below) makes it plain that the ‘surround’ for the Auto-Trail Frontier DRL unit is unusual and this might go some way to explain (though hardly justify) the startlingluy high price for a complete replacement unit. Inexpensive “Eagle Eye” lamp-units are available with various wattages (example here) https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/4pcs-12V-1W-Eagle-Eye-White-LED-Daytime-Running-DRL-18mm-Car-Tail-Light-Fog-Lamp/183127985898 The challenge would be to find ones that would match the 3 working LEDs and that would fit into the surround. Gman
Why not see if you can swap them out for these, a hell of a lot cheaper, and includes the drivers too. There's a video on utube on how to fit them too. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Daytime-Running-Lights-DRL-LED-Pod-Kit-Fiat-Ducato-Boxer-Relay-Motorhome-White/251544240464?fits=Car+Make%3AFiat%7CModel%3ADucato&hash=item3a91348150:g:b64AAOSwqrtWnkYl hope this helps. Ninian
Hi, I'm afraid everything from Autotrail is expensive. I hope PhilH posts his possible solution as I have the same DRL's on my van.

Steve. A potential snag with replacing the original DRL ‘pods’ of PhilH’s motorhome is that on-line photos of 2013 Delawares strongly suggest that Auto-Trail colour-matched the pod to the decals used on the front bumper. I’m also wary about whether embedding the pod into the bumper (image below) rather than have it on the bumper’s outer surface, would conflict with how Auto-Trail installed the original pod and what the overall effect would be. I notice that the advertiser in your ebay link offers a 10 x 1W LED kit for £93.60 https://www.ledcom.co.uk/daytime-running-lamps/daytime_running_lights_drl_universal_flexible_bullet_lights but that would still be overkill if it’s practicable to remove the three failed LEDs from the original pod and replace them. The advertiser also offers single LED lights for £7.80 each https://www.ledcom.co.uk/daytime-running-lamps/single_led_unit_spare_for_pod_lights though I’ve no idea if these would be suitable replacements for the original LEDs in the Delaware’s pod.
