Dometic RM6505 AES FRIDGE

I need help, (my wife would agree). We own a beautiful Marquis Mirage 6000. Now our problem lies on the fridge department

DOMETIC RM6505 AES MODEL.

The damn circuit board has given up the ghost. Works fine on 240v, brilliant on 12v

But the gas side has given up. We have tried everywhere to get another board. Discontinued and no one has one sitting around.

I have had the board checked, and the relay that operates the gas valve is faulty.

I send the board away to an alleged pcb expert, who informed me that because the board underside is coated with hard resin it cannot be repaired.

We have posted this in a vain attempt that someone somewhere may have or know of a board that will fit.

Do not want to go down the Avenue of fitting a newer fridge and detract from the originality of the perfect van.

Anyone help????

I’d only add that this is worth a read https://www.techspray.com/the-essential-guide-to-conformal-coating .

From what I could pick up, the resin could probably be removed with abrasion so a little more tedious than simply swapping out a relay but I would have thought very doable. So on reflection I’m with Arthur on this one, phone up Apllejack, explain the situation and see what they reckon. The other alternative would be to email Matin Bushnell who now handles the aandncaravans electronic repairs http://www.martinbushnell.co.uk/ . I’ve used Martin before and found him to be efficient and effective.

The only trace I can find of something available is this (classified ads in Germany)

https://www.ebay-kleinanzeigen.de/s-bestandsliste.html?userId=5139629

The two listings seem up to date, though how you would go about obtaining a unit I'm not sure - you might try messaging via the link on one of the items.

(I also suspect you wouldn't be getting the original item, but the "replica" which is shown in the second picture, and looks like a home build).

Bruce. Sorry yes that is the part number. Even thou I dont have the board itself...I did remove and store ( in yhefridge) the black cover for the board and that confirms the same part number you quoted.

The PCBs used on AES fridges appear to be overpriced rubbish (when available). I have a problem with our 7 series fridge which will not change to Gas when the engine is switched off. Luckily my model fridge also has a manual knob so I switch it to gas and it works fine and will remain working when the knob is turned back to Auto. Can you not do the same?

Hi Think your Mirage 6000 is a newer version of my old 52 plate Autosleeper Luxor. When I brought it in 2012 the fridge did not work in aes mode due to a faulty board. I was told back then that replacement boards were not available so the dealer I bought it from had to get a new fridge \freezer fitted (motorhome came with 3 month warranty). The new fridge fitted was a manual not aes but still cost over £1000. Hope you don't have to spend that much but ...............

Thanks David, the £1000 option of a new fridge did enter my mind. But being a tight fisted southerner it quickly slipped out again.

Did you enjoy the luxor, Mirage to us is everything. Even with the dicky fridge..but I am always the optimist and wl get it running.

Hi, yes the Luxor was/is a nice motorhome. Built by Italian manufacturer Mirage I thought the build quality and finish were to a high standard, no complaints about them at all. Our m/h had a rear bed layout ,underslung lpg tank a built in Honda generator, roof mounted air con so well equipped. the couple of niggles I had were the lounge seating cushions were quite firm and got to be a little uncomfortable after a while, the biggest problem, though not unsurmountable was the wiring. The toilet pump stopped working, the truma boiler stopped working.I got them to work ok but in doing so found that some systems the brown wire was live and others the blue was the live. It had the 2.8 engine and as we were up near the 4150kg weight most of the time it was a bit underpowered . This came to the fore when I decided that the best route from Florence to Cattolica was the shorter cross country rather than the longer motorway drive . I must have changed gear a thousand times and the longest bit of straight road was 100yds. I had the m/h for five enjoyable mostly trouble free years hope you enjoy the Mirage when you get the fridge sorted.

Regards David

Hi!

I have exactly the same problem and also looking for a new board (same fridge, RM7505).

Gas does not work but what happens for you when you put on the fridge?

Just the green led goes on and then nothing happens (not the sound of the gas valve opening and not the sound of the igniter). The green light stays on, never goes in a error. Is that the same for you?

I contacted the same guy as you but like you said, he doesn't have them till somewhere in August.

  • 1 year later...

Hello

My dometic fridge RM6505 had a problem with 240 volt and it was all pointing at the PCB board which cannot be replaced as now exempt. The gas was working ok and so was the 12 volt but when switching fridge on it would automatically try for the gas. I went to a specialist and and they said it could be the 240 volt heater element or the PCB board so they advised me to replace the fridge as they didnt feel it worthwhile paying out for a replacement 240 volt element. I was about to purchase another fridge and i come across this forum and you mentioned about checking the two earth wire connections going rusty so i thought i would give it a go and behold after unscrewing and cleaning the rust of the connections my fridge is working perfectly well. Thank you for saving me over £1,000.00 much appreciated, kind Regards :).
