robdav
Hi I intend to fit two leisure batteries in parallel, I'm assuming I only need a solar charge controller with connection for one battery as my current setup doesn't charge the starter battery with solar? Thanks Rob
aandncaravan
Rob, simply put yes. However, by using a dual battery solar regulator and running one output to Starter battery provides an 'overcharge' outlet when the habitation battery is full and doesn't need or want any charge. The Starter battery always has drain on it from the Alarm, Body computer, etc so happily takes any excess Solar and reduces the risk of overcharge on the Hab battery.
