TheEscapist
Hello everyone Does anyone know a manufacturer that makes a fully equipped off-grid vehicle when fully laden still falls under 7500kgs? As a UK citizen my driving licence requires this. Cheers Paul
spirou
Something on top of a Unimog possibly? https://www.bimobil.com/en/modelle/fernreise-und-expeditionsmodebile/ https://earthcruiser.com
Derek Uzzell
The French specialist 3C-Cartier produces ’truck’ and ‘off-road’ conversions http://www.3ccartier.com The truck conversions will be far too heavy (minimum 13 tonnes and hideously expensive) but the off-road models based on a Mercedes or Iveco 4x4 platform should weigh less than 7500kg. Obviously the potentail buyer would need to set the parameters as to what qualifies as "a fully equipped off-grid vehicle”.
Billggski
A number on ebay from defenders and alphards up to full blown army trucks. The land rover magazines often show examples like Nene Overland.

aandncaravan
The expedition offroad vehicles tend to have small accommodation areas and very hard rides. Comfort sometimes takes a back seat to achieve off road ability. The 4 wheel drive Merc shown above probably isn't actually that capable 'offroad' but will have higher levels of both interior and ride comfort. I would guess that either the Merc or the similar 4 x 4 Fiat, etc, listed above have higher rated axle options that would allow more Solar panels, generator, etc. to be installed to make it self sufficient to the levels you intimate you might require in your other thread? If you are as serious as suggested about being self sufficient, then when you look at each vehicle check the roof space carefully to see which has the best layout for optimum Solar panel installation? Some have so much installed up there there is little room for decent sized solar panels. For optimum efficiency may I suggest you think about larger sized solar panels, like 170 - 200watts each, with higher voltages, and efficiency, than the equivalent 100watt panel, therefore look on the roofs for fairly large sized spaces for them to fit? Choose the panels carefully as I have noticed some of the bigger panels are being sold with a 12 year manufacturers warranty, when 5 years ago 20 years was typical. Thanks so much for the kind advice. Yes, it's a trade-off as ever but I'll find the right builder and do a bespoke design and build. Zocama.com near me in Spain look quite capable.
