It’s not surprising that Fiat Ducato production is lagging. This article

reported that it was intended that production at the SEVEL plant would recommence in late-April 2020 at 70% of the normal rate - but then the COVID-19 figures in Italy began to climb steeply in October 2020.

And, of course, the SEVEL plant produces Peugeot Boxer and Citroen Relay/Jumper models as well as the Ducato.

And all vehicle manufacturers worldwide are contending with production issues due to a shortage of chips for electronic components.

"Car manufacturers, who cut chip orders as vehcle sales fell last year, found themselves at the back of the queue when they tried to reorder when the market rebounded. The entire global car industry buys about $37bn worth of chips, with the biggest players such as Toyota and Volkswagen spending more than $4bn each, making them relative minnows for semiconductor suppliers. Apple alone spends more than $56bn a year and growing annually.

The chip shortage looks set to persist for some time yet. It can take up to two years to get complex semiconductor production factories up and running, and manufacturers are in the process of significantly raising prices for the second time in less than a year."
