Billynomad
I have a 58 plate 2.3l Ducato 130multijet, I’m looking at having a go at replacing the glowplugs, has anyone on here attempted to replace the glowplugs? What is involved in replacing them in regards to stripping parts out for access to the plugs ? Thanks everybody Billy

weldted
Can I ask why you are contemplating replacing them? Poor starting or warning light showing. On some models the glow plug light comes on if there is water in the fuel filter.
Derek Uzzell
Yes, it would be very wise to be confident that the glow plugs NEED to come out before attempting that task. This 2018 MotorHomeFun thread includes advice and warnings about the potential consequences for the over-enthusiastic DIYer https://www.motorhomefun.co.uk/forum/threads/where-is-the-glow-plug.168759/ Also similar warnings on the Fiat Forum https://www.fiatforum.com/ducato/433595-2011-ducato-2-3-multijet-glow-plugs.html
weldted
Haven’t tried removing glow plugs from newer model as have yet to come across ones that have failed. On the older and I mean older models where the glow plugs were at the back of the cylinder head it was a less than 50% chance of getting all four out intact. Failure was caused by the relay sticking on too long and burning then out (blue box by battery)
Redken
Front off to move radiator to gain access to throttle body. If a modified throttle body hasn’t been fitted nows the time. Bolt on egr valve pipe will probably snap off as will one of the 4 bolts holding the throttle body to the head. Strong chance one of the electrical connectors to the right hand glow plugs will be corroded. The 2 right hand glow plugs will probably snap off in the head. Most of this is due to water dripping from the scuttle over the years. So be prepared for the extra work, doable but a right pain. Noticed that eBay do a glow plug drill out kit for £29 and if you do it in the right sequence the head can stay on. Sorry to be a doom and gloom forecaster but best to know what could happen. PS If the worst does happen recently while visiting a garage they had a specialist mobile firm attend to remove broken glow plugs from a fiat you may find one in your area

Derek Uzzell
Billy (the original poster) posted an enquiry to the Motorhome Matters forum at 3.53pm on 8 March 2021 about glowplug removal. This enquiry produced 4 replies over the following 48 hours, but no response from Billy who has not logged on to these forums since his first and only posting. Then - 3 weeks later - the thread was revived, but still no feedback/thanks from Billy. I accept that ‘late’ comments on a subject can be useful, but it has to be asked whether a thread should be continued with (or left to die gracefully) when an original poster apparently has no interest in it.
