Filling tank while under hosepipe ban.

Living in the Southern Water area, and currently being subject to a hosepipe ban, I recently asked Southern Water the following question. (Before using our motorhome again)..."it will be necessary to thoroughly clean and disinfect the on board water system, which was drained and left empty over winter. This will involve filling the tank, adding a purifying agent, leaving the product to stand for 24 hours, then draining, flushing with clean water and re-filling with fresh, clean, water. The only practical means of filling and flushing the tank is to use the filler pipe. This is, essentially, a hosepipe. Will this activity of cleaning and re-filling the on board water system contravene the (hose pipe) ban?" Those similarly affected may be interested in the reply, just received, which is as follows: "When a full hosepipe ban is in force, a customer cannot use a hosepipe (hand held or unattended) or a sprinkler, to water a private garden or wash a private motor vehicle. For health and safety reasons, your particular usage of a hosepipe does not fall under the restrictions." If you are a similar position vis a vis hosepipe bans, you may wish to confirm this in writing with your water company, just in case of misunderstandings with neighbours, or even passing Water Company employees! Hi Brian Well that is good news for all those that it may concern After a day trip round Thrilmere, Windermere, Ullswater, and Derwent Water Yesterday - all are used to supply domestic water. We should not be affected for some time - fingers crossed. Should any body have problems you could do as we have done when staying put & not wishing to start the engine just to travel to the water tap & back We have a home made funnel (a pop bottle with the botton cut off & a bit of hose connected to the neck) and two 8 litre water bottles (it cost less to buy the bottles full of water than to buy empty bottles) Simple we use these to top up the tank One site in Spain banned the use of hosepipes to fill the water tank - but allowed you to put in the same amount this way ????????????

I have also noted some people on site using watering cans with a long thin spout which makes things easier for lifting and pouring. They fill up every time they go to the tap or put rubish out etc..
