Can anyone suggest aires in the Bergerac area and again in the Carcassonne area, which will be open the week before Xmas? Thanks to all in anticipation. Stuart

There are a few parking places alongside the river in Dordogne that are especially set aside for motorcaravans. Follow the road alongside the river and the Parking area is between the two bridges. There are also dumping facilities and water. In Carcossonne follow the directions to the walled town and you will find a car park just outside the town wall that charges 10 euros for 24 hours. You have to deposit a 10 euro note in a machine and the barrier lifts so make sure you have a 10 euro note as you cannot reverse out. There is an area set aside for motorhomes but there are no waste or water facilities.

My guide-book shows an all-year-round aire in Bergerac itself and others in reasonable proximity. There are also 365-day aires close to Carcassonne. These should be open across the Xmas period. Having said that, aires de services are always vulnerable to vandalism, accidental damage, lack of maintenance, civil projects, the whim of municipal authorities, etc. Thus it's always pot-luck on arriving at an aire whether or not the service-point will be in working order. Definitely your best strategy would be to visit www.campingcar-infos.com and consult the sections relating to Aude and Dordogne. The information on this website is much more up to date than the guide-books and carries useful comments and photos relating to aires de services, plus tips on aires de stationnement (parking spots). You can then download details relating to the Aude/Dordogne departements and take them with you on your trip for reference. If you travel with a lap-top, you can obtain the complete website database on CD.

Stuart Hi. We stayed in Brgerac in August 2005 Suggest you go to: www.campingcarinfos.com/index1.htm key in Bergerac and look at the aire. It also describes my thoughts. Have a good trip-Mike
