Hymer water pump keeps disconnecting itself

The submersible water pump, on my Hymer Van 314, keeps disconnecting itself where it connects to the tank cap. I've fitted a jubilee clip, but the connecting pipe still comes loose. I have tried finding a replacement connecting pipe (12x15 1234/1516) but so far no luck. Has anyone else faced a similar issue?

I also have this problem with my B598 Hymer. Seems to occur when the water level is lower allowing the pump to be pendulumed by water sloshing about the tank which gradually prises the hose off the through cap fitting. My pump sits a matter of millimetres off the tank floor. The top end of the plastic pipe is held in place by a jubilee clip.

I have had to refit the pipe perhaps 3 times in 6 years (550 nights approx) I tighten the clip but am conscious I don’t want to overtighten and damage the through cap fitting.

I keep meaning to either obtain a longer piece of pipe so that the pump rests on the tank floor, or get a suitable piece of plastic to wedge underneath the pump and fill the gap from pump base to floor.

Since it has only happened a few times and is easy to refit the tube, I have not been sufficiently motivated to deal with it properly. Perhaps now you have mentioned it I will get it sorted. I will be keen to hear if you sort yours out and how you achieve it.

Hi, Try putting the pipe on the cap and secure with a ty-wrap.

On this, but also "Jubilee" clips etc, do remember that the clip, of whatever type, will come into contact with water that you may consume and should be of appropriate materials. Not all contaminants are neutralised by boiling! :-)

Thanks Brian, the hose comes off at the top end where it connects to a fitting which is part of a hatch. The bottom end of the pipe is constantly under water, but is gripped by a toothed plastic connector and is (hopefully) designed for permanent immersion, though it does have metal locking circlips.

The pump and fittings are Reich, similar to this,

There is perhaps 30cm or more of pipe which carries the weight of the pump and push fits onto a barbed connector which is part of the tank lid. This allows for the pendulum effect which I believe ‘twists’ the pipe off.

The jubilee clip is above the full level of the water tank and is subject only to sloshing of water during travel and potential ‘condensation’ when static. Mine is as far as I can tell stainless steel and is not showing any indication of rust or corrosion. Is a ‘food grade’ jubilee clip available? Although I assume we are not likely to suffer adversely with the current set up.

Your comments are always appreciated by me, and, I am sure, by many, on the diversity of Motorhome related topics.

Mornin'...

Is this top "fitting" just a straight spigot then?..and is it a moulded part of the lid or just seperate bulkhead type fitting?

IF it isn't barbed, I just wonder how easy it would be to swap it for one that as? (or just "add" a barbed one, if the existing one can't be removed)?

I took a couple of photos of the lid and it’s through fittings on my iPad this morning. I shall try and attach them after posting this, however, I can’t even find what size they are without resorting to some external software, so not hopeful. Here is a link to the type of lid with fittings, not a great picture.

Ultimately having had an easily resolved issue 3 times in 6 years, I can live with it and may put a longer piece of pipe on it ‘sometime’.

Photos failed to upload. As expected, no big deal. Looking forward to the new forum software, ‘sometime’.

Thanks to everyone for their input. I've raised the problem with two Hymer parts specialists. No result yet. If I get a response I will post it.

In the short term, I'll just have to turf everything out of the wardrobe so that I can get to the tank to reconnect the pump when it goes again.

My HYMER had the daft submersible pump and that kept coming adrift it was just hanging in the water in the tank and driving caused the thing to slosh about, and come adrift, I fitted Stainless steel jubilee clips to it in the end and hey presto it never came adrift again,
