Mega Fuse vs Circuit Breaker

I am upgrading the cable from 35mm2 to 50mm2 for the connections from the leisure batteries to the inverter.

I currently have a 150amp circuit breaker protecting the cable and wanted people's advice on whether to stick with this circuit breaker or replace it with a mega fuse. Are there any advantages or disadvantages to consider

many thanks

50mm2 cable can carry over 300 amps but the terminals and input circuits of the inverter may not.

Not only does the protection look after the cable it protects the inverter.

Usually the fuse/breaker is selected at 125% of expected maximum current.

Taking into account losses, battery drop under load and inverter efficiency, a 1000 watt inverter would be protected by a 125 or 150 amp fuse or breaker.

Most of the breakers on the market are unreliable, you have to pay over £60 for a quality product like Bussman.

I suggest a MEGA fuse and holder. If your current inverter is happy with 150A protection use the same.

Hi Mike

Thanks

The Inverter is rated at 1500w continuous power, the max power I would use would be around 1200-1300w, so if I apply 125% then 150amp fuse sounds ok. I will change to mega fuse, many thanks for your input
