Brock
The Liverpool Echo newspaper has published 14 little known Mersey Tunnel byelaws. Most of these are known but the two I didn't know are: 1. The amount of space between vehicles: Byelaw 3(n) provides a rule many motorists may be surprised to hear, which is that when moving drivers are required to leave a 23m gap to the vehicle in front, reduced to a very specific 2.75m when stopped. 2. You can't carry poo in your vehicles: Rule 3(p) tells motorists they cannot drive any vehicle containing "faecal or offensive or noxious matter" or a substance likely to be a nuisance or cause damage to the tunnels. The first is ignored by everyone, the second I'll leave to your imagination. https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liverpool-news/14-laws-using-mersey-tunnels-15107692

plwsm2000
That is good to know. Next time I use the tunnel, I'll take a tape measure with me as they don't say if it is ok to leave a bigger gap. I also read that there is a minimum speed limit of 10mph. Who will be in the wrong if the cars in front are only doing 9mph? :-D
yeti
This may also apply to other road tunnels.
