Municipal Sites in France

I have used this link in the past http://www.camping-municipal.org/and we have enjoyed some good municipals as transit sites. The sites tend to be close to town/village centres so a walk for a meal/drink is usually easy.

Sadly the website owner died in 2015 and the site has not to my knowledge been updated since - no WiFi where he is now!
It still works however and the campsite websites are there so it is still useful.

However, does anyone else have, or know of an alternative website/App for municipal french campsites? (I really want a website/App, not a book)

Many of them are in ACSI Eurocampings but AFAIK you cannot select them on that App or website. (You can only select Price Low to High)

Thanks in advance

Jeremy

As far as I’m aware, there is no alternative website/app with the scope of the one you mention (though even the data on that website were never 100% complete).

This website

https://camping.hpaguide.com/t48.camping-municipal.php

has information on 404 municipal campsites and it’s possible to filter by French region (Brittany, Normandy etc.) but the camping-municipal.org website suggested there were near-2000.

The camping-municipal.org website seems to have been a ‘hobby’ project (rather like camping-car-infos.com was when Bruno Moquette created it way back when) but it’s unlikely now that (3 years after the website’s owner’s death) it will be progressed by anyone else.

There is a very comprehensive book , supplied by Vicarious books, called Le Guide officiel camping caravaning, which we have used. It has 8500 sites in France Worth having IMO.

It is in french, but with a basic knowledge you can translate

Think ,not sure but WW Campingcarpark.com seem to have taken over a lot of old Municipal sites in France and also some Aires

The French Camping-Car Park (CCP) network comprises revitalised redundant campsites and aires, plus a few brand-new installations, but there are currently only around 110 CCP sites.

The concept is summarised here:

https://campingcarpark.com/en/the-concept/

and (apparently) has the backing of ‘partners’ with responsibility for tourisme.

https://campingcarpark.com/nos-partenaires/

I’m not sure how CCP makes its money, but there’s unlikely to be a rapid expension of the present network. New-build sites (example here)

https://campingcarpark.com/en/shop/parking-areas/sainte-suzanne/

will be far from cheap to install, and most aires and disused campsites will be unsuitable or clearly unprofitable for CCP to become involved with.

Thanks for your responses everyone.
I'll soldier on with the old site (and maybe augment it with some of the websites suggested by you all).
We don't use them a lot but do find them a useful alternative to ACSI when transiting France. We have found some lovely little sites near the centre of towns on a river, - what better after a long drive to sit in the square at a cafe with a beer & a kir!
