Deffheads
I am just about to leave the twilight zone at Cabopino camping [Twilight is where most of motorhomes are pitched in total shade from pine trees]. My question is what is the best way of removing tree sap from roof and especially the Heki clear cover, I've tried car shampoo and window cleaner, but still have lots of black spots all over. Going to car wash with tower for motorhomes, but feel this will just remove loose dirt, not sap.
Keithl
Kevin, You are going to need something slightly stronger like 'TAR remover'... https://www.halfords.com/motoring/car-cleaning/car-shampoo/autoglym-intensive-tar-remover-325ml-140632.html There are other makes available (but I prefer Autoglym products) ! ColinM50
Will petrol or acetone do it?
Keithl
ColinM50 - 2020-02-29 12:16 PM Will petrol or acetone do it? It depends on the surface you are cleaning the sap off but generally I try to avoid harsh solvents on bodywork. I would try a proprietary tar remover first. Keith. fjmike
If the pine tree sap is reasonably fresh it would be better to try a strong detergent or anything with caravan or motorhome in the title. It may take several applications but maybe better than using solvents. Just remember to wax afterwards
Will86
Organise a loose cover over everything especially the Heki cover or avoid parking there.
Guest rael
Probably too late in the year now, but I got rid of a load of sap when we had a frosty morning by simply scraping it with a small piece of acrylic. The edge of a CD case might also work. The sap is frozen so is easily removed, it just breaks of and does not leave any marks. Works just as well on paintwork and glass. ColinM50
That's a very good suggestion Rael. On aircraft carpets and flooring, where chewing gum had got trodden in, we used to use a spray to freeze the gum and then pick it off. Mostly worked OK especially on non porous surfaces. You can buy freeze spray on Google such as Link to Freeze Spray For £3.50 worth a try?
aressee
Had the same problem with pine sap on the roof and windscreen after leaving a campsite in Spain and removed all the lumps with rubbing alcohol bought from a Chinese shop for about one euro.
