Repairing bumpers

Over the last couple of years I've damaged both sides the rear bumpers and plan to repair them. Not wrecked but they need fixing But what sort of adhesive to use? The bumpers are plastic, not fibreglass, I could do f/g no trouble having done quite a lot of epoxy and polyester moulding over the years but not sure what to use to stick on the ABS? type plastic. Epoxy, or one of the modern structural adhesives like Gorilla glue or sticks like?

I changed one bumper a couple of years ago, dealer replaced it and it was £180 so don't fancy spending that much, and happy to spend the time doing a repair

Any ideas welcome chaps and chapesses.

TIA

Many years ago I repaired a grey plastic bumper by reinforcing behind the split with GRP matting then grinding off the sticking out bits of plastic and filling with so called flexible filler, then spraying the whole bumper as close to body colour white using aerosols.

Cost was minimal, it took a bit of time but my time was abundant and free at the point of service!

It looked good and lasted still looking good when we sold the van some 18 months later.

I don't know if 'modern' bumpetrs use a different plastic but roughing up the surface to get a good hold for the GRP and filler probably helped.

Most car repair bodyshops can do this, especially the so called SMART (small medium auto repair technique - or similar!) specialists.

PS Our son runs a workshop in Cheltenham and he does a very good invisible repair!
