Happy Chappy
Newbie Motorhomer but long standing caravaner. Need to drill 10mm hole in the floor of our new Compass Avantgarde (Elddis ‘solid’ construction) to pass through the control cable for reversing sensors I intend to fit. There are no other access holes visible. Other cable conduit entry points for the road lights are sealed with a black sealant which is barely pliable and very tough (almost rubber like) and I don’t want to interfere with that. Any tips for the appropriate sealant to ensure watertight and no damp? TIA
BruceM
You’ll be after a non setting mastic, something like Carafax https://www.caravantech-shop.co.uk/products/consumables/mastic-n-sealants-maintenance/carafax-caraseal-idl99 or alternatively search non setting mastic on ebay. Derek Uzzell
As the hole will only be 10mm-diameter, there will be plenty of options. Personally, I would not use the type of non-setting mastic BruceM suggests (I loathe the stuff) and - if I didn’t already have a suitable product in my box of sealants/adhesives - I’d opt for a rubberised sealant an example of which is shown in this ToolStation advert https://www.toolstation.com/roof-gutter-sealant-300ml/p11002
Keithl
As a complete alternative I have used RayTech Galactic Waterstop on a number of occasions and find it fantastic (and re-usable). https://www.toolstation.com/galactic-waterstop/p40696 Keith. Billggski
For that size hole I'd use a rubber grommet, ensures the cables stay centred, away from chafeing on the edges.
