Staying near St Malo

Can anyone recommend a nice place to stay near St Malo ?

we will be arriving off the overnight ferry after a long journey the day before , will need to shop, and nowhere in St Malo itself looks very appealing or convenient.

Quite happy with campsite or Aire.....just want a bit of R&R and stock the fridge!

We stayed at the Aire at Rothneuf a few years back. Bus at the gate into St Malo centre, or a lovely walk along the shore into town if you have time. It is called camping car des ilots. Grass Aire, loads of room but can be busy in season.

I was hoping to use the Aire at the park and ride in St Malo last October, but plans changed. Seems to be reasonably close to the town centre.

Both of these and many more stops and sites are on searchforsites.co.uk

Supermarkets are plentiful all over the place, easy to access and park, but I have no experience in their locations.

Some details of the Saint-Malo Feval parking-area here

As will be seen, motorhome parking costs €7.50 and (as a 3.00m maximum height is mentioned) there may now be a height barrier.

On another forum the 'aire' at Ploubalay is mentioned positively. This is about 17km south-west of St Malo via the D168 and costs €10 per night including all services

I notice that the huge motorhome 'aire' at Hirel - on the coast about 12 miles to the east of St Malo via the D155 - now seems to have been split into an AirePark with a pay-to-enter barrier

and a Camping-Car Park (CCP) site where membership of the CCP scheme would be needed to use it

That Aire at Hirel is really good. A nice cycle or walk along the coast path to some cafes and oyster shacks etc.

In st Malo we’ve stayed at the cite d’alet site right up on the hill above the port/ marina. It’s walkable into the walled city and in a great location for some amazing cafes and sights around pad the old port. I think it’s a municipal site so not overly expensive considering the location. Some interesting ww2 history around the site where you can see the old German gun emplacements and the pounding they took from the allies! The website is here https://campingsdelacited039alet.site-solocal.com

We looked at the ploubalay Aire last year and would have happily stayed there but we ended up in a campsite with a pool (for the kids!). The ploubalay site used to be a campsite iirc and has been converted to an Aire but a well serviced and maintained quality one at that. We’ll prob use it in the future.
