I'd be glad to hear of others experience of super absorbent towels. Do they do what it says on the tin ? Which make is recommended ?

Yes, they work. I walked the Camino right across northern Spain last year and one the size of a normal tea towel was my only companion for a month, working fine for the nightly shower. I cannot remember the brand of mine, but it is woven and is sold in most 'trecking' shops. Avoid those that are like bits of blanket or window cleaning cloth - they do absorb, but are not nearly as nice to use or to dry out after use.

Ours are Lifeventure Trek Towels from www.rohan.co.uk, quite pricey and being microfibre they feel a bit strange until you get used to them. However, they dry out very quickly and we are very pleased with them. Downside is they are a funny green colour. I washed them with other towels a bit too hot and the colour ran. I now have some ordinary cotton pale green towels which had been white. I think you can get cheaper ones from Lakeland Plastics.

For many many years we have used good quality face flannels, about 9 to 12 inches square to dry off after a "van shower, dry off an area and wring out and dry off the next bit etc. until all dry, including our two daughters long hair when they were young. Just use a big towel to finish off afterwards, if required. So easy and a lot less towel drying to do after, and less towels to carry. Much like using a chamois on a car after a wash ! I found this way so effective I use it in the house, cuts down on the washing machine expense. Daughters use the same principal in their "vans now and have indoctorinated their children [now grown up] to do the same. I have a friend who has taken this one stage further and keeps a special face flannel for her dog in the van. If you want to impress your husbands, It is a lot cheaper than expensive Super absorbant specialised towels, and he will not notice you have a few extra face flannels in the locker.
