To waxoil or not?

I have just had my first MOT on my 2018 Sun living. The tester said Ducato bodies are now galvanised, but still recommended Wax oil. I should say that I live in Arnside, which often means driving on roads affected by tidal flooding. Any advice would be appreciated.

I think it would be wise to consider, as you are well within what I would consider a "hostile" environment with, I would imagine, a lot of drifting salt spray as well as the salt water flooding. Hollow box sections including items such as windscreen pillars will be particularly vulnerable in those conditions. The Waxoyl should be injected into these as well as covering the underside and wheel arches. It would be worth asking what they do about the plastic wheel arch liners when you speak to them. At least the van is a PVC, so no joints between aluminium and steel to be concerned about - except that Thule/Omnistor extending step! If you can, check that the fixing bolts are stainless, and if not, consider replacing like for like with stainless.

I am increasingly coming across threads which regard waxoil as older technology. It also seems to pose a fire risk should welding be required in the future. Dinitrol seems to be more favoured at present. I understand there are a couple of other treatments. I can’t recall the name of one which was talked about recently on another forum.

Dinitrol anti-corrosion treatment has been a favourite of classic vehicle owners for many years. There's a listing of possible UK providers here

Earlier forum threads that included a reference to “dinitrol”

In this 2015 forum thread Nick Fisher said that the body panels of Fiat vehicles have been made from galvanised steel since 1994

and it seems to be generally accepted that - from 2006 onwards - the complete body (including the chassis) of Boxer/Ducato/Relay vehicles is galvanised.
