If your van is below 3.5tonnes ,then the cheapest fastest way is Dunkirk belgium Luxembourg (FIll THE TANK HERE).Germany, No tolls. Austria(7.5€0 VIGNETTE And 8.5 € Brenner pass. 40 kms Italian side Turn off Motorway and head down the valley to Venice.Less than 25€ in tolls. We always use Minoan Line. Camping on board or Deck.Venice_Igoumenitsa (orPatras) same price.Discounts for over 60s.We never use the cabins, even in winter. The price is equivelent to Park lane Hotel prices. Ancona is a bit cheaper and more ships, but another 500 kms.Again with a small van under 3.5 .A Swiss vignette at 30 Euro for the year takes you without tolls to Como and then down through Milan ,Bologna ,Ancona.Italian motorways are not that expensive. compared to France. We do the trip back and forth .7 times in the last 3 years.

This is very interesting. How much do the ferries cost from Venice and Ancona? Thanks for info. Brian

Be aware that the Superfast service from Ancona does not now allow the 'Camp aboard' facility. Due to new British owners.

Yes superfast pulled out ,but have a couple of incentive schemes for caravan & motorhomes. One is collect stamps from some camp sites in Greece and Italy. for a free trip and earlier this year a half price cabin for motor home users. They also do special family fares. The only companies doing camping on board from Venice and Ancona are Minoan and Anek ( Some vessels only). The best web site is http://www.ferries.gr/. They cover all including the cheapies from Bari and Brindisi.
