Mickydripin
Just a question I would like to ask the disabled fraternity. I am classed as disabled and I get my road tax free some time ago I was told that any servicing and repairs you have done on your vehicle you do not have to pay the vat on I know when I purchased my first motorhome some time ago I tried it at a large dealership and they deducted the VAT but I had to show my certificate. Is this still the case I would be very interested to know if it is still possible. I am also registered as disabled on my log book. Mike.
flicka
Still applicable as far as I am aware.
StuartO
HMRC restricts to option to buy new motorhomes free of VAT to regular wheelchair users for whom the vehicle has been significantly adapted. Possessing a Blue Badge wouldn’t cut it.
Mickydripin
StuartO, I only asked if you can get VAT free when you get a service or repairs thanks. I know the rules when you purchase a new van. Mike
Bop
There's a dealer in the Newcastle Upon Tyne area who used to sell Autotrail vans as VAT free (due to disability ) by just adding a £80 security handle to the door. They told HMRC that the handle was to assist in disabled access and won their case.
