hallii
My fresh water tank (Hymer 522) gets a vacuum as water is drawn, there must be a way for air to replace the drawn off water? In the filler cap?
hallii
I found the problem, there is a small hole in the cap, it was blocked with something black, no idea what it was, poked out with wire and all good. H
Derek Uzzell
The fresh-water tank needs to be vented to prevent the vacuum issue you've mentioned. The venting may be via the water filler-cap, or by a separate vent within the filling inlet, or the tank itself may have a dedicated vent. My Rapido's fresh-water tank's inlet is near its base and there's a vent outlet near the tank's top surface. The tank can be filled to the brim when water will gush out of the filling inlet in the motorhome's side. Then water starts to siphon from the tank through the vent via a narrow-bore drain-hose that passes through the motorhome's floor. When sufficient water has siphoned out for the vent to become exposed to the outside air through its drain-hose, there's a horrid spooky gurgling noise that put the wind up me when it first happened. hallii
Thanks Derek, mine has the vent hose connected to the filler tube so air just gurgles out. The vent to prevent a vacuum is in the cap. Anyway all working now. Geoff
