Van audio

Dear All,

Just bought a new van (Citroen Relay) to be converted. I'd like to use the van's own audio system when parked up. Problem is it's propensity to turn itself off after allotted time! So the questions are,

1. Does anyone know a way of wiring the van's audio to the leisure battery. All the advice I've had (from car audio specialists) is that in built audios will not work without connecting via the van's power system and connected to the 'CAN' network?

2. Is there a way of changing the van settings so that the audio stays on for longer?

Thanks.

Richard

Is this the Uconnect 5.0 touchscreen radio? If so:

1) I've read of some people rewiring the power feed to the radio through an ignition switched supply. Probably the easiest option to be honest. Whether there are any consequences from doing it, I don't know, but these radios integrate and communicate with the instrument cluster and body computer ECUs so they are not a standalone unit.

2) The radio off delay can be changed from the default 20 minutes to 180 minutes, but it involves reprogramming the body computer. Although the facility exists, from what I understand most techs at Fiat dealerships are either unaware of how, or unwilling to do it. Whether you would have more luck with a Citroen dealer I have no idea.

I have found that AlfaOBD diagnostic software for Android and PC is able to do this, but you need to know what you are doing since it involves altering the proxy-configuration file which is the master list of vehicle options and behaviour from which the body computer operates. AlfaOBD website contains a help file which explains how the software works and what equipment you need.

Although the software is called AlfaOBD, it works for most Fiat group vehicles, and I know that Citroen is not part of FCA, but because the Relay is built in the joint factory along with the Ducato and Boxer they share many components and the author of AlfaOBD has included functionality for them in the software.

i have a 2007 Citroen Relay based pvc and when I decided to upgrade the existing radio asked the audio techs who fitted the radio to provide a continuous power switch. When driving the switch is off but when parked up and I want to use the radio simply flick the switch to power up the radio. Not sure how they wired it but it was simple enough I think for the audio guys.

Older vehicle with a completely different factory radio that doesn't interface with the BCU and instrument cluster through the canbus.
