Washing Motorhomes.

I've just come in from washing the bus and I've failed to remove a couple of dark streaks from the side of it.

They appear no different than any other streaks that I've removed in the past but these seem impervious to anything I've tried.i.e. Fenwicks streak remover and Fenwicks Motorhomes Cleaner diluted to their recommended strength. I've seen a motorhomes valeter post on here in the past but can't remember his name and I'm reluctant to go at it gung ho in case I make matters worse. So if he,or anyone else has any suggestions I would be glad to here them.

FWIW. I initially thought it might be bird muck as they eat berries at this time of year and that they had pooped on the roof leaving the rain to dissolve it causing it to run down the side, although with the stubborness of the stains I now think it unlikely.

This is the motorhome forum person malcy is probably seeking to find:

http://www.motorhomevalet.co.uk

I think Mike is also a member of Motorhome Fun.

Like John Allen, I use the Autoglym Caravan & Motorhome cleaner for difficult marks although there are stronger commercial products according to a local truck repair firm, who removed some marks on my van that Autoglym couldn't. They buy it in bulk and its expensive - I can't remember the name of the product.

Thanks for the replies everyone, I will have look at the Autoglym product.

Brock. That's the fella I was thinking of. Maybe I was naive thinking that he would share his specialist knowledge gained over the years with me. He does have an excellent website though and if I was local to him I would certainly give him a try.

So for now it looks like Autoglym and elbow grease.

We use a product called Silky, its a non abrasive cream in a tub and it really works.Recommended

by a guy at one of the shows. Available on flea bay.

+1

Silky Boat Cleaner is the best product I've ever used for removing streaks.

II never mind sharing knowledge but without seeing the van it's very difficult to offer advice. To be on the safe side it maybe best to try Silky as this will usually shift most stains and wont do any harm. If using most other cleaners it's best to wax afterwards as they will remove any protection along with the stain

There is a product called G3 Paste by farecla. It is for cars really but can get rid of the lines/streaks if nothing else works. It is available online and i think at halfords.

Not for the inexperienced as it's very abrasive and if not used correctly will do serious damage.

I have used G3 Paste in very small quantities and followed by the G3 Wax protect sorted out black marks on the roof. Try a small area as a test.

This method MAY be okay on GRP but NOT on the cab or aluminium sides as the paint is remarkably thin.

I don't think the model - make of Motorhome is mentioned.

Just to add that some Motorhomes have bodywork where it is advised to use silicon free products.

If this the case a bit of research is needed on automotive products, or go straight to marine products for gel coats.

It's not bird muck........I now use bleach on the streaks left behind after rain by sealant around the fridge vents :-| .........

PS I should add my campers nearly 30 years old so I'd try bleach on a non obvious area first if it was built this century :D ..........

You are making the problem worse, using bleach will etch the surface giving the dirt something to adhere too.

Farecla G3 is recommended by Autosleeper for their monocoque Fibreglass bodies. To restore faded gel coat finish...and yes it does work. Did on my Talisman anyway. Have often used it to removed stubborn marks on my now steel bodywork. Works a treat.

Hope you waxed afterwards otherwise it will go dull very quickly

G.morning. Well I bought myself some Silky and it's done the trick. It wasn't axactly the magic solution I was hoping for but with lots of elbow grease and repeated applications we got there eventually. It did however work wonders on the fridge vents and the outside locker surrounds, so full marks there.

I'm now struggling to restore the finish on the dark/charcoal coloured plastic valance the runs along the bottom of the hab body.ive tried T cut and polish and T cut and Silky but without success as it still has a cloudy haze.

The vehicle is a 2013 Swift Escape which is what Swift term an entry level vehicle. I wonder if that translates into entry entry level plastics or is that me being too synical. I'm perfectly satisfied with it in every other way but I would like it to look as smart as it used to.

I have used Farecla G3 Gelcoat Restorer and Wax with good results, although it is hard work doing it by hand. :-(

One thing I cannot rectify is the removal of scratches on the external locker doors. They are low down and painted blue. The various scratch removers have had no effect at all.
