Caddies104
Hi Just remember that a little more oomph has to be limited to 25 kmh or 15 mph to be legal..
Guest JudgeMental
My recommendation is to try bikes with the Bosch centre drive system. either visit a show or a couple of dedicated e bike shops...test ride a range of bikes including some hill climbing and just read up on ebikes, plenty of resources online

thebishbus
Anyone thinking of converting their own bike to electric, take e look at the kits available from :- www.8 Fun.com bike electric conversion kits . For any real cyclists out there ( you know, the ones in Lycra ) that feel they may need a bit of electric assist occasionally, have a look at the way lightweight electric assist bikes are going at ;- www.Cytronex.com . Guest JudgeMental
Like I said earlier, bikes fitted with the Bosch centre drive system take some beating. The KTM range of e bikes now seem to be available in the UK, they have a large range of bikes with difernt systems. I am having a demo ride on a new system from Panasonic in a few weeks that is receiving very good reviews in Germany where it is getting a reputation as the bosch killer.... believe me that takes some doing. We are only interested in decent quality lightweight bikes...whatever you do try a range of bikes before you buy, and include some hills! http://www.fusionelectricbikes.co.uk/ktm-erace-p650-electric-hardtail-mtb-650b.html Map of dealer network. Slide map to right for UK search http://www.ktm-bikes.at/haendlersuche/google/index.html Many styles and all the main systems http://www.ktm-bikes.at/e-bike/index.php?lang=EN We have one of these AVE Bosch powered bikes and very pleased with it.... http://www.ebco-ebikes.co.uk/products-page/ave/

Daniel the editor
Good morning all, Just a quick reminder for those interested in electric bikes that we have a feature in the next issue of MMM (June - yes it is almost summer!) on electric bikes. It looks at the advances in the last decade, as well as reviewing mainstream, high-end and budget bikes. And yes I appreciate this feature is not about motorhomes so I am prepared for comments on this forum criticising me for including non-motorhome content in a motorhome magazine. But, from speaking to many readers and re-reading comments on the reader review forms, it appears the majority of you really appreciate these 'non-core' articles that offer advice on such things as accessories. Hope you enjoy it! As ever if you don't just comment here and drop me an email. Thanks Daniel
Guest JudgeMental
This is not a bad explanation of types of e bikes available except for one glaring mistake. When they compare crank drive with hub motor drives, he says crank drives are noisier compared to hub drives when the complete opposite is true...it must be an error as rest of article not bad. Crank drives are near silent and its one of the best aspects and certainly the best hill climbers as they drive though the gears.... http://www.bikeradar.com/gear/article/buyers-guide-to-electric-bikes-29944/

flyboyprowler
As a word of caution, last weekend, when on a rally in Shrewsbury, one of our party had his electric bike battery spontaneously ignite. It was not on charge, not on the bike, but in a cupboard inside the van. As luck would have it, they were close to the van, and managed to remove the battery, leaving a nasty smell, and fire damage to the floor cupboard. This is probably an isolated incident, but worth considering, when storing your batteries!
