Guest PeteC Posted January 26, 2006 Share Posted January 26, 2006 Hi Bill I actually had one in (when was it oh 1960'ish) it was made out of one of those windup gramaphones (record player for you youngsters) First you wound up the clockwork motor and a Meccano electric motor which was connected as a generator was connected to the drive shaft This gave out an excellent pure sine wave 14v this was then rectified and smoothed using Zenner diodes gave a constant 12V DC They were sold on the web by a firm of specialist electronics suppliers www.specialist-electronics@clear.net.acdc Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Guest peter lambert Posted January 31, 2006 Share Posted January 31, 2006 Bill, You obviously saw the same article that I did a few months ago. It was about a new 'wind-up' pc for the 3rd world. Along the same lines as the clockwork radio of a few years ago. As I understand it, they will be quite basic machines, and the one I saw a picture of was bright green I think. But, if I remember rightly, there is a low power cp (made for use on narrow boats etc. originally) available from a Cornish? company. Unfortunately I can't remember the name. Bob.
