dealer prices

Are you buying new Davie? If so, then in my humble opinion, dealers will always deal, especially near when the registration letter is about to change, or when they have the last years stock needing to be cleared, or need to make a target. If ordering from new, if you have a price to work from, then play one dealer off against another. Good luck with it any way.

A friendly salesman once told me that motorhome sales continue fairly steadily right through the year, so there isn't really a dead quiet time when you could hope to haggle for a better deal.  However we are coming to the season of announcing 2019 models, so there should be discounts on remaining stocks of 2018 models.

The really important thing of course is to choose the model that's right for you, rather that buy the wrong one just because it's a bargain.

Just seen a Facebook post from Spinney offering significant discounts on 2018 stock, which confirms the above post.

It's all about supply and demand and the dealers need to sell to make a living at any time of the year.

If new, the converter's pressure on the dealer to sell is added to the mix as is getting any of last year's models sold.

If used the perceived saleability of any p/x counts too as there is little attraction for any dealer in selling a sought after model at a discounted price to buy in a van that is possibly less popular.

So just keep plugging away untill you find a van you like at a dealer you like at a price you like.

One of the best deals we ever struck was at a branch of a national chain of dealers on 30th December some years back.

We were in our van on the way home and had no real intention of changing until on arrival, just for a break and a coffee, a salesman told us openly that they were 'very close' to their year's sales target and any deals done that day would be 'favourable', especially if a deposit were paid.

He was right, it was a very good day to do a deal!

Other than being in the right place at the right time the next best place for a good deal is often at a show where there is sales pressure to cover the costs of the dealer attending the show and salesmen tend to be a bit more focused.

Shows late in the year are often favourable to getting a good deal so long as you know exactly what you want and stick to it. Dealers are keen to hit their next years sales forecast targets made with the manufacturers and the manufacturers sales team are often on hand with the same objective and can/will make a financial contribution to close a deal. Aim for a ten percent discount and you will nearly always get it if the dealer thinks you are a serious buyer, but don't be too greedy.

Some of the most important thing is missing here. The first poster has a motorhome who he can trade in at a dealer for another. First: like E bay says sell it yourselves. And that is thru. In belgium the dealer has to provide by law 1 year guarantee. To resell. by the dealer their can be a lot of euro difference. So sell your second yourselves to the highest bidder. Hand over papers only when the money is on your bank acount. Cheers. Do you have do to a new Mot when selling?
