Will86
Hi Milly and welcome to the forum, first tell us what make and size your new M/home is, we should then have some idea what spaces you have (cupboards etc) particularly from those who actually own the same model who will have a better idea and how many occupants there are likely to be ? Everything has a weight of course and the more you load up with what you think are essentials the less space and weight is left for what you really need. Have you made a list
ColinM50
Next week is the BIG caravan and motorhome show at NEC Birmingham. You'll have plenty of opportunity there to buy everything you could possibly need and a lot that you don't need but you should be able to max out your credit cards. There's a few special offers and the entrance fee is under a tenner though even less if you're a member of the C&CC. Shows on from 15 - 20. Well worth a day out but take sandwiches foods a bit pricey

Matrix Meanderer
Hi Milly. Before you buy melamine plates consider buying Corelle plates. They are very, very much better than melamine, extremely light and almost unbreakable. OK not so cheap but far superior. This company is one of the main suppliers and usually at the NEC show next week: https://www.worldkitchen.co.uk/ although you can buy from lots of other suppliers. Billggski
Would you eat off plastic plates at home? What would you say if a cafe served you food on a plastic plate?Get proper ceramic stuff, preferably made in Stoke!
Conrad
For drinks we use Keep Cup - made from robust tempered glass, can get them with lids to use for a takeaway/make in your van and go drink, plus we have 6oz size for cold drinks, even acceptable for wine. Fifo
As soon as you add the words” motorhome” or “ camping” to anything you double the price. I agree that melamine plates are not as nice as china or glass ( like Corelle) but Ikea sell an excellent range of corelle- type crockery at 50 p per item, plain white. When you go to France or Spain you can buy very cheap, tough Arcopal etc wear. Buy things that you would buy for home - lighter if you can so no cast iron pans or casseroles. Use the shops you would normally use. Don’t buy too much: most of us have lofts full of stuff that we never use, bought because it was recommended at a show or on a forum. Keep a notebook handy and, having bought the basics, use it to remind you of anything vital you forgot. Motorhomers are a friendly bunch and few would mind you borrowing something if you were really stuck. There are lots of inventory lists online that motorhome bloggers have published. Topmast
Why rush out to buy everything? I would buy the absolute minimum that you need until you have spent time in your new van .you will find you buy lots to start half of it will be wrong or you will wish for something slightly different. Whatever you do enjoy your new hobby.

vindiboy
If you plan to cook in your van you will need a pressure cooker for sure a triple steamer set of saucepans so much quicker and better taste is steaming, a small frying pan, a larger frying pan ,a small saucepan, a slow cooker YUK if you really must and possibly a double skillet, these seem popular with some folk ?? As for buying crockery and cutlery specific for your van DON'T. Take these from your home and see how it goes, if it works in your home it will work in the van for sure, as for the comment about storage ,what ever you have on board you will find space for, we have all been wowed at shows and bought crap we will never use so take your time and buy sensibly as you see things on your travels, for us it has to be good quality plates and utensils , good glass glasses etc why lower your standards just because you are spending time living in your van, Just an aside NEVER Melamine or plastic anything Hee Hee. Happy travels and Bon Appetit. You will soon find what works for you and will have a set of everything in your van as in your home..

We use Melemine plates and bowls because gf's mother gave us some, aside from that everything we use is same as at home, but kept to a minimum. You can use it to eat anything & the tip is a useful screwdriver in emergency!

Apart from being useful to remember places you enjoyed, it’s great to read through and remember past trips. I used to do it in notebooks and now do it via a private ( family only) online blog. It’s a good way of forcing yourself to edit and keep all the thousands of photos taken. Enjoy yourselves and safe travels.
