We are holidaying in Aug/September this year instead of may/june - Heading Dover Dunkerque via Norfolkline bank holiday weekend. First stop Gent for two nights at Camping Blaarmeersen and then heading over towards Verdun and then south. What will the weather by like? and can anyone suggest aires and sites they have stopped at and would recommend - I am spoilt for choice:) Don't think we will go any further south than Montlucon before we head back - either west through the Loire Valley and up or retrace our steps and back up through the Ardennes. regards carol

Carol. September in France lovely. We have don it for the last two years, beautiful weather. Last year at Vichy the temp did reach 120f one day, but that was exceptional. Thats a nice part of France, and down to the Augvern. If you are into healing water its the place to be. The countryside is great. Lots of Campsites. We are heading towards Metz in June then possible south. David

Carol Do a search for "ACSI" on the site, you'll get some info on their cheap camping as well. Which Norfolkline Ferry are you booked on? We're going over on Sat 26 August at 8.15 am (after overnighting on the Dover sea-front), if you were on the same one it'd be nice to meet up for a chat.

We are on the 8.15 ferry too! So looks like a meeting is on the cards:) We used touring cheques and asci card last year, and will do the same this year. And maybe Freedom Camping with the C&CC Mind you last year we were in a caravan, so this will be our first proper trip to France. We had a long weekend last November, when we had all the trouble with the vehicle battery. Brownhills refunded the cost of the new battery by the way! Another aside - anybody got the 2006 Eurocamp Independant Brochure - inside the front cover - top left hand corner, me and charles outside our caravan June 2002 or maybe 03 at Le Brevedent. Fame at last, but only we can recognise the 'van and disco and charles in his funny hat! Carol

Carol, hi. Don't want to be a misery but we used to go to France Aug/Sept regularly and gave it up 'cos of the rain, so take waterproofs just in case. David Metz is a great place. Took a small campervan and awning along with a motorbike several years ago. Used the municiple site. It's on the river, lots of trees for shade. Onsite cafe/shop. Cafe better than shop. Metz city centre, within walking distance, has lots of local shops, a supermarket and a central square filled with cafes and restaurants. If it's still there try the ice-cream parlour! Plenty places to visit within a days there and back motorbike ride. We stayed 2 weeks, we had the bike to get round on, but most people only stayed couple of days. Yours Bob

Hi Carol Whey-hey, yippie ... it'll be great to meet up then - where are you staying on the Friday night? We'll hopefully get down to Dover around 8.00 pm at the latest and will grab some fish & chips and park up on the sea front. You won't be able to miss us - we'll have at least 2 dogs in tow - possibly 3 but one's getting on a bit and has been very poorly over the Christmas break so well have to just hope. Our van is a Rapido 709F - what's your's? Must dash and get tea on for hubby! Speak to you again soon. Mel B
