Paul-
Possibly, if you don't clean the system often you could get some limescale or crud stopping the valve from closing properly. Its easy to clean and not difficult to replace, check out truma breather valve on top of the pipe

baden87
I intend taking it back to the dealer but just wondered it was a common problem and a simple diy fix

Derek Uzzell
It’s not uncommon for a Truma FrostControl safety/drain valve to release pressure in the water system when heating the water to 60 degrees. My Rapido’s Combi’s valve often does it when the water is reaching (or has just reached) the 60-degree point - there’s a brief hiss and (presumably, as I’ve never checked) a small quantity of hot water is then spat out through the tube leading from the drain valve through the floor to the outside air. If that scenario matches what you are experiencing, I suggest you treat this as normal. If a lot of water is being spat out, or it’s happening much more often, the drain-valve may be faulty and require replacement.
Robinhood
...you will probably find there are two pipes leading from the Truma unit to the underneath of the 'van. One is the FrostControl/dump outlet which is opened/closed manually by the Frost Control unit mounted inside the 'van, the other is the outlet from the "breather valve" located in the hot water outlet at the top of the boiler, and designed to ensure that the boiler fills completely (it should close automatically once the boiler is full of water). Both of these have been known to "pass water" if you'll pardon the expression. You need to determine which one it is. (Easiest way is to (part) fill the boiler and then operate the Frost Valve; you'll then see which outlet this is by looking underneath). It is sometimes possible to seat the dump valve better by opening and closing it a few times, getting rid of any crud. The breather valve is rather more difficult, and if it is that that is spitting, then it is likely to need replacement. Do make sure, however, that the water system (boiler) has been thoroughly purged of air, as any remaining in the system and passing into the hot water outlet pipe may cause such spitting until the system is fully purged. If you identify which pipe and have taken the simple precautions/actions above with no resolution, then, armed with the correct info, it should go back to the dealer. baden87
It’s the clear pipe not the one used for draining the system down
Robinhood
....then, as above, ensure that all air is purged from the water system when you fill (both cold and hot taps - all of them - delivering a constant stream of water without any spluttering) and if it repeats, see the dealer about the issue (which may involve replacing the hot water output elbow on the Truma which contains the breather valve).
