tonyg3nwl
Hi folks, my internal rear view mirror which is bonded to the screen and which carries the rear view camera disply as a clip on device, has decided to part company from its bonding. I have twice tried to reattach it usung the double sided sticky pads from Halfords, which are designed for this purpose. absolute rubbish, in spite of meticulous cleaning of the relevant surfaces, the bonding failed after a couple of days. in desperation, I decided to try using Araldite 2 part mix and so far it is a success. The bond has held togetherfor 3 days, so I have also remounted the rear camera display as intended as a clip on device over the mirror, so far successfully. I was very disappointed with the so called sticky pads designed fo this purpose, so dont recommend them should anyone else have a similar problem. what do the replacement windscreen people do when a full screen needs replacing..they must have something suitable Tonyg3nwl. Keithl
Tony, A new screen will already have the 'boss' for the mirror adhered to it. You simply unclip the mirror from the old screen and fit it to the new one. Keith.

I suspect Keith is right, but have you considered contacting, for example Autoglass, to see if they have a better solution than Araldite? They use some pretty powerful adhesives on glass. My only concern with the Araldite, is that if it fails you'll have a hell of a job cleaning it off to be able to try something else.
Derek Uzzell
Tony’s problem was discussed here earlier https://forums.outandaboutlive.co.uk/forums/Motorhomes/Motorhome-Matters/reversing-mirror/51224/#M594728

I hope the Araldite will be long term solution, or I suspect it might need a complete screen change..expensive.!!! Tonyg3nwl
Derek Uzzell
As I said in the earlier forum thread I provided a link to above, it’s normal for the windscreen of an X250 Ducato/Boxer/Relay to have a metal fitting glued to the glass and for the mirror-unit to attach to that fitting. (The fitting is the ‘boss’ Keith mentions.) As your motorhome is a 2009 Autocruise Starfire, that’s the arrangement I’d expect it to have, though your comments in the earlier thread seemed to suggest that there was no separate fitting that should be glued on to the windscreen-glass and that the base of the mirror’s ‘arm’ was glued directly to the glass. There are several versions of Araldite with “Araldite Crystal” marketed for glass where transparency is important. This video relates to making jewellery and 3m DP460 adhesive (expensive!) is recommended as a glass-to-metal adhesive There’s no chance that double-sided adhesive pads would cope with the weight of the large interior mirror fitted to an X250, let alone when the mirror has a reversing-camera monitor fixed to it. As Brian has advised, a windscreen fitting specialist would be worth contacting for advice.
tonyg3nwl
Hi, Autoglass did not have any suggestion, short of replacing total screen so far Araldite is holding, assisted by extra gorilla tape over the whole fitting. Tonyg3nwl
