I was right. The moderation on this forum has got ridiculous. I started a thead yesterday pointing out this fact and it is now gone. First there was virtually none and now I has got to he point hat it is not worth participating anymore.

Unfortunately there was a glitch in the system as the thread was being moved to Your Views, where it belongs, and it disappeared into the aether. I had pointed out on it that the moderation is in response to the behaviour of a few forum members which has resulted in new and old forum users being driven away thanks to the abuse, provocation and flouting of the forum rules. As has already been stated, debate and exchange of opinion is welcome and encouraged. In order to do that the forums have to be free of abuse and malice.

No threads or posts have been removed for simply stating an opinion. If a post is removed you need to consider what was in it. Posts that refer to other posts which were abusive are obviously going to be removed as they will make no sense. The moderation has been applied without favour or bias. The forums are here for everyone to use and enjoy. We had one new member join yesterday and on his first thread he was already commenting that people were making him unwelcome. This is simply not acceptable.

Freudian slip Duncan!!

Sorry to be difficult, but I do not understand how someone can comment on feeling unwelcome in their first posting, ie before they have posted anything to be made unwelcome about?

Personally I find the new levels of moderation most welcome and on the whole pretty sensible and fair.

Ah yes, well spotted, but I can always correct it.

Anyway, I shall explain: They started the thread as a first time poster. After a number of useful and informative replies there were some that were less than helpful. It was to these that the OP referred to as being made unwelcome.

Just an observation Duncan ..............But in theory we're all adults who drive campervans or tow caravans ...........I can understand removing stuff that could be seen as libel or detrimental to Warners advertisers, but have you not swung a bit too far the other way? ................You'll be old and grumpy one day........ where will you vent your spleen? .............

Sorry Dave can't help you there, it's getting to be hard enough knowing where I am at times these days let alone knowing where anyone else is too - but don't worry Matron will be along soon and she will be able to tell us all where we are!

Confused of Evesham?

Cheers Gary, unfortunately humour is not always appreciated by some folks but without humour life would be so dull don't you think so how about some of that infamous dry Aussie humour from you to take our minds off of trivia like elections and immigration?

Just don't mention cricket - or rugby!

No threads or posts have been removed for simply stating an opinion. If a post is removed you need to consider what was in it.
Posts that refer to other posts which were abusive are obviously going to be removed as they will make no sense.

We had one new member join yesterday and on his first thread he was already commenting that people were making him unwelcome. This is simply not acceptable.

Hi Duncan..

Having only just noticed this, I would like to respond if I may...

On the thread that you highlight no one, that I could see, was being insulting or abusive to the OP("travellerkid")..and nobody rebuked him for asking his questions..
All that a few of us did, due to some seeming "irregularities", was to ask whether or not the OP was really an existing member just making "mischief"? (to put it politely!)...

...and if that had been(is?) the case, then surely you as the moderator will be well aware that it wouldn't be the first time that folk have been allowed to "reinvent" themselves?(some several times over!.)

So against such a backdrop, I would've thought that our slight cynicism was understandable.

Edit to add!: Rich'.. Just to clarify, the "reinvent themselves " bit, WAS NOT aimed at you!

Not a problem Pepe and I would never have taken it as if it were given the context in which you posted it - but thanks for the kind thought anyway!!

By the way I didn't reinvent myself per se as I made no secret at the time that I was back under a different name and with the full agreement of the moderators who were fully aware of the circumstances.

And that is an explanation NOT a jibe at anyone who has returned reinvented!

Hi Pepe,

It's a fair point and while that's the gist of the matter, it actually went further than that, with the end result that the OP commented, "I can see I'm not welcome here." And that wasn't acceptable. We don't want first time posters to come away with that impression. So the thread was moderated and those comments were removed - and there has been some good advice given subsequently.

Cynicism is fine, and while there's always the chance that someone is simply taking the mickey, if that transpires then it will be dealt with. Until then, everyone should be treated with civility.

Moderation is never going to please all the people all the time. I think the current moderation is a lot better than what we had before which did indeed result in people leaving the forum. There is a point when "humour" causes offence and explaining it as just banter somehow implies that the offended person is being over-sensitive. Some of the posts we have had have been addressed to specific individuals and been provocative and offensive. Calling someone an idiot just because you disagree is pointless, if you can't persuade by reasoned argument then keep quiet.

When a thread becomes the same few people popping off at each other it is just boring for everyone else and some only seem to come on to the forum to do this. A good few potentially interesting threads have disappeared into the murk within a few posts.

So keep up the good work Duncan.
