We want to return in April to region west of Cannes possibly around St. Aygulf, where we camped 6 years ago near beach at reasonable price pnight. Interested if anyone knows any other sites around this bit of coast with quick access to beach and away from traffic jams on St Tropez approach roads!

Hi - not sure if you want to stay near Cannes itslef, but we found an excellent municipal type site last year - Camping Bellvye PArc, at Cannes la Bocca. about 2k from sea, or short bus ride into Cannes itself from the stop just outseide the site. It's listed in the CC Continetnal guide and I would have thought probably open in April.

We used it as a base, and in the end stayed there over a week, visiting the whole of the Cote d'azur by public transport....much easier than trying to park a motorhome along the coast! The site also accepted Camping Chqs, so very 'cheap'.

Hi,

Much cheaper option with no worries re advance booking.Stay on the aire at St Maxine (just off roundabout, opposite McDonalds on D25). Free sservices and parking. 10 min walk into town centre to catch boat to St Tropez or bus up coast. We stayed over a week in October last year and really enjoyed it.

Give it go

We "almost" stayed on this aire at Christmas, but found that the traffic was light and went through to the port carpark at St Tropez instead.  Summer would be a different story, though!

around the end of May do you think we would be able to get in without advance booking,*-)

Hi Carol, shouln't be a problem, we never book! We were there 30th May -7th june (2006), and was OK. Only thing might be worth checking if any major French Bank hols over the dates you're looking for, and just give them a call a day or so before you want to arrive.

Site is divided into 2 main areas, top and bottom, and we preferred the top bit (smaller) near the entrance, although some road noise. The bottom bit is much bigger, but naturally takes more 'vans, and if heavy raid, might be a bit wet, although roads are fine, and the better toilet block is on that area. Send me a PM if you want more info, although of course it's only based on our experience and what we like!
