Campsite Review - Camping Sagmuhle, Trippstadt, Germany

Camping Sagmuhle is almost in the middle of nowhere about 10 kms south of Kaiserlautern! Its in a heavily wooded valley with a lake that can be used for swimming and boating. There are several pitching areas but the main one is opposite the reception. All pitches are on grass and of a reasonable size although they do vary. Like most German campsites the camping area is shared with permanent units although this site does have touring areas. Electrical connections are of 4 amps using continental round 2 pin connectors. Whilst 4 amps seems low we found it perfectly OK if treated like 6 amps which is more commonly found. You can upgrade to a 16 amp metered supply using 1kw tokens at 40 euro cents each. If you make use of this facility you must use the right connector in the box with the meter. Water points are handy to all pitches. The toilet block in our section of the campsite was to a good standard with seated toilets and paper provided. Unusually this campsite also has a caravan dealer and accessory shop attached but unfortunately the shop does not accept credit cards or UK Bank Cards. Bread can be ordered for collection by 10.00am the following day. The gates to the campsite are closed from 12.30pm to 2.00pm and from 9.00pm to 7.00am the following morning. There is parking within the site but outside the pitching areas during the hours of closure. WiFi is available via a T-Mobile access point and you can pay on line. At €8 for an hour its quite expensive but if you will be in Germany for any length of time the monthly pass at €29 would be the cheaper option. The site has a large Restaurant and a Bar. Camping Cheques can be used in the low season. Date of visit mid June 2009.
