hut_on_wheels
We have a trip planned in a few weeks time to France. The problem is that we dock about 4 o'clock in the morning and want to get a few hours shut eye in our caravan before heading to Honfleur. Weve heard the usual stories about being robbed, gassed and eaten by werewolfs but we are not sure where to stop and if indeed it is legal to stop anywhere for a few hours overnight. Any suggestions? :-D
Randonneur
Try Cite Europe, the enormous shopping centre just outside Calais near the Tunnel, if you park at the far back you are right outside the Gendarmerie windows. We stopped there last Nov/Dec, no problems at all, the large trucks park there as well. The shopping centre doesn't open until 10 am, I think. Philman
Why not park in the car park at the Ferry Port, Lots of Motorhomes park there. There is also a large car park just outside the port but I would imagine you would be far safer in the Ferry Car Park.

Mike Parke
The area we always use is the seafront Motorhome park, ( on the starbord hand as the ferry clears the bar on entering the port). It as popular and therefore may be full but as the area surrounding the parking lot is policed and illuminated it is safe. However, between late April & September you will be woken up circa 09:00 C.E.T. by a camp site warden from the nearby municipal site requesting 7 Euros. He also calls about 12 hours later if you arrive during the day. Happy touring, Mike
