We are currently in Lewis having toured up from Barra.

There are many beautiful places to responsibly and for free stop along the way - many alongside fabulous beaches - and finding them is as easy as following one of the many roads.

Each TIC on the Islands will send you some info if you ask them by phone or email.

There are several CDPs at ferry terminals where rubbish can also be dumped and fresh water obtained.

If you prefer to use sites there are a few on the Uists and Harris & lewis if you need one - but none on Barra as far as I know - TIC's will advise.

Internet access is non existent but we managed to find a wifi hotspot at Stornoway from whence cometh this epistle.

The rain is intermittent and so are the midgies - it's either one or t'other!

Off into the wilds again tomorrow so no more postings for a while.

Bring your wet weather gear and wellies!

Welcome to the forum

We stayed on Barra a couple of years ago.

There is excellent wild camping along the dunes by the airport. There is a long fairly flat strip where many vans stay.

Fresh water is available from a tap on the end of the airport building and toilets can be emptied about a mile or so away ( along the road that passes the airport - can't remember the name of the place).

We stayed there for several nights and would go again.

There is also a small cafe in the airport and also toilets but of course that is not open 24 hrs.

Planes land on the beach when the tide is out.

We travelled the length of the Outer Hebrides in about three weeks and enjoyed the whole trip.

Details of toilets/ dump stations etc can be had on a leaflet from Benbecula Council - see their website.

Have a good trip.
