Lizzy
We stayed in a log cabin recently. 7 mins stroll down hill from the site is Skelwith Bridge Hotel and the Talbot Pub, food is great, views lovely. I had a bowl of homemade soup each evening followed by an expensive pud i.e. raspberry brulee. Yummy. Hubby had a huge Cumberland sausage with onion gravey one evening; fish with chips and veg another; steak pie, veg and chips the next. He couldn't manage a pud ;-) The Staff are Latvian, friendly, unobstrusive and helpful. They allow dogs in the Bar :-)))) Skelwith Bridge is about 4 miles from Ambleside and 10-15 mins walk from Loughrigg Tarn.
Lizzy
In Windermere we found an ice cream shop with lots of different flavours - yummy even on a chilly day!
