Are you planning to go tent camping abroad next year?
(For discussion: If so, where do you plan to go? Do you have any recommendations for other tent campers?)

new to camping at the age of 56 went away with new tent gelert horizon 8 the weekend before the week we travelled to france. we purchased the porch for the tent too plus trailer for the car plus the height addition so we could get everything in. We travelled Leeds to Portsmouth to St. Malo then onward to the Vendee approx 150 miles. The campsite was large about 260 pitches mostly mobile homes owned by french residents, we were the only brits on the site as the site had no agreements with Key Camp, EuroCamp etc. We took our UK hook up (blue connector) but took a continental lead aswell. we didnt need it our Uk worked fine so we had kettle toaster sandwich maker phone charger all working fine.
we booked the site direct by e mail no problems i e mailed them several times prior to our stay asking questions which they replied in english promptly. pitches were large and Hedged off for privacy anyone contemplating going just do it cos eating all meals outside in the warmth is a far cry from the howling winds lasshin rain that we encountered high above Huddersfield/Halifax the first weekend we camped.
note:- Site Les Albri de Pins @ St. Jean de monts Vendee
Cost 30 Euros per night for 3 adults electric & water
Deisel ranged from 1 euro to 1.09 per litre

We, as I'm sure lot's of others here have camped many times in France. We tend to head further south (Ardeche, Provence, Dordogne etc.) but have found many excellent sites in the Loire, Burgundy, Champagne, Centre regions also. Sitting outside your tent at midnight sipping a glass of the local red and it's still 20c+, the crickets are chirruping away, little glowing pockets from other campers night lights, people walking past to the loo not knowing whether to say "evening" or "bonsoir, guten abend......" etc ........pure bliss.
We are in the process of planning a 4-6 week tenting holiday in France and Switzerland next July and August, dog friendly sites are picked, dog friendly hotels for the long drive overnight stops are picked, can't wait :)
