We haven't left yet just exporters benefitting from the crash in the pound whilst they have still got free trade.
David Jason says Dell Boy Trotter would have supported Brexit.
He wouldn't be interested in the political issues, just what he could make out of it selling to both sides - Brexiteers and Remainers
Like the other Brexiteers are - who are conning you into going along with it

Labour's previous reputation for splashing the cash will pale into insignificance if Corbyn gets hold of the UK's cheque book ............

No it won't......in fact if you pulled yourself away from that Beano rag and started reading informative news you'd see pay growth has slumped. But you find pretty coloured charts showing less EU citizens working in UK more appealing.

The slowest rate since January so it's not "boosting wages".

So why did you vote to drag this country out of the EU when you have no intention of financially contributing within it? IF....and it's still a big IF, we exit...you should be spending all your money supporting the country you voted to leave and not an EU country.

No.....as a fanatical Brexiteer it's your duty now to permanently reside within the UK contributing to this countries economy. You voted for UK to come out of the EU so now it's time you quit flying under flags of convenience as and when it suits. Your cherry picking days are over.

Good news on unemployment but it also kind of backs up why we need immigrants so much as there are not enough Brits to do the work of the 7-8 million Immigrants we have here from both inside and outside the EU.

Wages are reported to be rising as well which is also good news or so you would think.

However increased costs for businesses pushes up prices, inflation goes up, interest rates go up and everyone is back where they started.

Companies being forced to raise wages sounds wonderful on paper (who could possibly be opposed to that?) but in the context of an economy that is flat lining and far from healthy, it is almost certainly bad news, it's only a matter off time before some of these companies go the wall or go out of business not to mention the other knock on effects.

I dunno why this thread is called More Brexit good news because all this is happening while we are members of the EU. How is it going to be good news if our costs of production spiral upwards and when or if we leave and are then faced with export tariffs?

There are probably enough unskilled people already in this country to fill every unskilled job vacancy without the easy option of importing 'cheap' labour and maybe when our economy collapses as Barry predicts immigrants will be less inclined to come here and benefits paid to able bodied unemployed to do nothing will become unsustainable. That might tend to focus the minds of those who would sit on their backsides for years rather than work and is maybe our best chance of reducing immigration?

Surely from a "loony lefty" biased site it must be fake news.....or is it only "loony lefty" or "fake" when it's something you don't want to hear or see despite being factual?

And that its always the case in July as its like January. They get a shed load of tax in but it is higher than normal but it can only be classed as Brexit good news when we have actually had a Brexit I would have thought. Its a bit like saying Ive won the 100 metres in the Olympics when you havent even took part yet.

The only thing that will definitely take us into a recession is Brexit itself and certainly the kind of radical mad hatter Brexit you two are hoping for. We narrowly escaped it after the vote (for the 50th time) because of a world wide economic boom but growth of 0.1% was hardly something to celebrate.

The fact that your trying desperately to try and find something positive in all this mess really does speak volumes about the promised land of Brexit and how crap its all going to be.

In my view Brexit has delayed our usual boom and bust recession by stopping the economy from overheating, and allowed steady and sustainable growth instead .........

I guess we'll have to wait until the 10 th anniversary of Brexit to see how it panned out ........

They were sightly off course because of the world wide boom you keep ignoring. However some of the Brexiteers statements (lies not predictions) of around that time and before the referendum were a little "misleading"

Easiest deal in history
Nobody is threatening our membership of the single market
We could be like Norway, would that be so terrible?
They need us more than we need them

Etc etc etc.

Oh and lets not forget both Smuggy and Redwood stating that it would be a good idea to have a second referendum once we knew what the deal was. Not saying that now though are they?

Hi,

When you look at the expected result of the last two referendums, BREXIT and Scotish Independence, would YOU call for a referendum?

52 is nearly 10% more than 48 ... not 4% as some people claim.

There was no right or wrong result, just A result, and it's up to all of us to make it work. Those who try to make it not work are sabatours.

<<< Then again if they are as bad at maths as yourself its hardly surprising. >>>

Hi Barry,

Thankyou for pointing out my error.

Instead of guessing, I used my calculator. It seems that 17,410,742 is actually 7.9% more than 16,141,241. Shall we settle for 8% ... which is twice the 4% claimed by the Remainers.

The EU have mocked us, sneered at us, threatened us, and hindered us. What they haven't done is negotiated with us ... they have asked us what we want, then told us that we can't have it. If they had offered us something to persuade us to remain, I might have changed my mind ... in the early days, but not now.

The EU are bullies ... if you give in to a bully, you are asking them to up the ante.

BREXIT is an opportunity. Changing our minds would be inviting the EU to increase their demands on our wallet ... we will have demonstated that their tactics work.

Have the Remoaners not considered what will happen when BREXIT happens depite their efforts to prevent it, and then THEY un-expectantly find it's their job to clear up the mess that THEY have orchestrated?

602

Its taken us two years to decide vaguely what we want and even then both main political parties are in dispute over it. The EU have not bullied anyone. They were politely firm about what was possible when we left but you and the Brexit orchestrators refused to believe them and the remainers who warned that you cannot have all the benefits without accepting the four freedoms and now because they have stuck to their word (Which we said they would) its bitten the Brexiteers on the arse. You called their bluff and have failed and now we are in the mess you describe. Its up to the Brexiteers to "own" that mess not those of us who warned you it would be so.

There are no opportunities from Brexit that outweigh what we currently have. I have been asking all over social media as have others for months now that after two years could one Brexiteer tell me how the average person or family in the UK will be better off after Brexit, Just one example with reasoning, just one. But not one single answer.

Eh? Who voted for Brexit despite being told it was a bad idea? Hmmmm; tricky that. Now let me see. It couldn't have been the Brexiters could it? Seems a possibility, don't you think?

So, if the mess that is now Brexit (as forecast before the vote) is disagreeable to Brexiters, it is somehow the fault of those who voted to remain. Er, yep, it must be true - but only in Brexitland. For the rest of us, those who don't inhabit a world of inverted logic, it seem the consequences of voting for Brexit are entirely the responsibility of the Brexiters.

I'm going to propose a special tax post Brexit that will affect only Brexiters, and will rise or fall proportionately to the rise or fall in the UK economy. After all, why should I pay for the misguided actions of others when they were clearly warned what to expect? In fact, I may even suggest the tax is levied only on those parts of the UK that voted to leave the EU, as opposed to the individuals. Seems fair to me.

Oh the Brexiteers will blame anyone but themselves Brian when it all goes Tits up. It will be the fault of the Remoaners or the EU but not them. Despite their hopeless endeavour to take us over a cliff with no plan whatsoever it wont be their fault. When there is a recession they will say "oh that would have happened anyway or we were due one about now" like its a number 9 bus.

I agree with your tax idea. Seems fair. As motorhomers though if we are lucky enough to get European Citizenship post Brexit I think it should only be available to Remoaners. We should have a special lane painted Blue with gold stars on it which runs from the M25 to Dover. No Brexiteers allowed in it.

If you have not already expressed an interest in the European Citizens Initiative you can do so here. https://eci.ec.europa.eu/002/public/#/initiative Its legit, ive checked it out.

There have been a number of "remoaners " who have come up with ideas on how Brexiteers and Remainers should be treated differently - but the flaw in those ideas is that the vote was secret - so no individuals can be identified as either.

IF things go badly I'm guessing you would find that hardly anyone will admit they voted to leave the EU.

It would be possible to discriminate by constituency of course - but none that I know of voted 100% to leave - so remainers in those constituencies would be adversely affected by any post Brexit retribution.

So - how would your " special Blue lane to Dover" be policed ?

<<< UK Car production down 11% and now Panasonic is moving its European HQ from UK to Netherlands. >>>

Hi,

Two questions ...

Is car production in Europe up or down? The last I heard, VW sales were down following the emmissions scandal. I suggest that British car production, and sales of all EU cars in UK, are down due to the taxation system. My wife's 1995 Korean car costs £30 a year to tax. Buying a new car would immediately add £100+ in increased VED. Both my 1959 Land Rover and 1971 Morris 1000 Estate are VED exempt, and MOT exempt. Insurance is £100 and £50 respectively.

Or perhaps it's the new fangled leasing scheme is catching up with the finance houses? Can the ex-leasers afford to start again, or are they stuck with buying THEIR ex-lease car at an exorbinate price? Asking, cos I don't know.

And this is Brexit good news why?

Did we leave over the weekend? Was I too pished to realise?

0.1% higher than forecast. Talk about clutching at straws.

Maybe its all the Brexit stockpiling we are doing. It also says "driven by a rise in activity in Britain’s dominant services". The very services your type of Brexit will crucify.

It also says manufacturing down by 0.2% but never mind. I am sure all those countries outside the EU in Bongo Bongo land will be queuing up to by our over priced British products if we leave the EU.

It also says manufacturing down by 0.2% but never mind. I am sure all those countries outside the EU in Bongo Bongo land will be queuing up to by our over priced British products if we leave the EU.

All your Remoaner doom & gloom seems to be doing wonders for the economy ..........

Hard enough to get a British Made Spanner these days.

Labour's got one for a leader ............

Looks like it will be down to you to make all the car components in your pelmetshop when we can't get them from the EU.
Seriously we import just-in-time components and export finished cars.
They can get finished cars from all over the world.
Where else can we get the components from.?
And you still think we can dictate trade terms to the EU

Those components can be made here ...........

I guess it'll depend whether tariffs will make it more economical viable to make them here ..........

Price is the only reason they're made where they are .........

Hi,

I drive a 1959 109" Land Rover. I bought a brand new galvanised chassis for approx £2,000. It was made in Britain. I bought a complete exhaust system, pipes, gaskets, clamps, rubber hanges and all the nuts and bolts ... delivered to my door ... about £60, but I don't know where it was made. Zero depeciation.

Personally, I have little interest in what is left of the rest of the British motor industry. I guess they feel the same about me.

The EU refer to Britain as "Treasure Island". I wonder what gives them that idea?

Hi,

Never heard that quoted but certainly re.Land Rover Bulgaria has a thriving parts import industry. I was talking with a young Bulgarian chap a few weeks ago who works for a Brit guy who lives there running a successful business selling Land Rover parts. It soon became clear it was more than just a job to this Bulgarian chap. He was a Land Rover fanatic who knew all there was to know about them with an ambition to own an original Series 1.

Hmm. Thats odd as immigration has not really gone down. EU workers are leaving in droves but None EU immigration (as predicted) has shot up to compensate. Still, you will be able to recognise the funny foreigners easier if we leave the EU as they will be a different colour.

Immigration was always going to peak though. People come here to work and we are almost at full employment. All that has happened is you have seen a sharp drop off of EU Workers and a sharp increase of None EU workers to replace them. Estimated non-EU net migration is now 227,000 a year, the highest level recorded since 2011.

Im not sure those that voted for Brexit because of Immigration will be too pleased with that happening. Still, at least you will be able to spot them easier and cross the road or summut.

Yes it would. We said this to you over two years ago. Do you think people who were looking for work within Europe would just carry on coming to a country that was approaching full employment? Do you think the funny foreigners because they are a bit dim would just carry on flocking to the UK until we all started to spill into the sea?

The amount we have was about at saturation when we decided to shoot ourselves in the face. Brexit will achieve nothing as far as immigration is concerned although it could easily make illegal immigration worse with the chaos that ensues around our ports and of course if the Tory headbangers can ship in even cheaper labour from Africa and Asia do you think they will hesitate just because you dont want foreigners here?

Its supply and demand though Dave. Your just swapping white faces for brown ones. We are going to need more probably anyway as people are living longer, whos going to look after them not to mention the millions of Ex Pat penniless codgers that will be coming home because they have been forced out of Europe thanks to Brexit ruining them and throwing themselves at the mercy of the state and our health and social care services.

No because the people I know and associate with are generally not selfish self centred Dickensian bell ends otherwise I wouldnt associate with them would I? It makes no difference to me how posh or wealthy Smuggy is I just deplore him both as an individual for his dreadful views and for his stance on Brexit and the way he is trying to con the people of this nation for his own gain. Being an MP isnt even his main job. Ask yourself why he is in such a position of power. Personally I couldnt care less if he was an ex Irish Navvy with the same goals and views, he would still be a self centred Dickensian bell end.

I couldnt give a toss about class Antony or wealth. Its pretty classless up here. The farm labourers drink at the bar with the Lords and Lady's of the manner and everyone gets on fine. I do care about this country though and the people, Smuggy however clearly does not.

So take away his Brexit views which you suggest is a side issue what are the views you say you deplore for him as an individual ... Remember youve put views so you must have a few up your sleeve ... by the way you dont "care about the people" of this country because as youve said many times you want us to house more refugees and where do those refugees go 99 times out of a hundred ??? To the people who dont want em that you claim to care about ... Go figure

Hi,

OT, but it might lighten the atmosphere.

We went to the Brecon Jazz Festival, accompanied by our two GSDs. The place was heaving, but we struggled through the crowds. Suddenly the leashes went tight in my hands. I looked down and found somebody's Granny cuddling the dogs.

A couple of weeks later, we were in a North London High Street, again accompanied by the two dogs. I suddenly noticed that the pavements on both sides of the road were empty. Everybody had dived into the shops. I felt it was a shame.

As the cheap labour taps are starting to turn off ............

So the UK workers wages increase ...........

Hmm. Thats odd as immigration has not really gone down. EU workers are leaving in droves but None EU immigration (as predicted) has shot up to compensate. Still, you will be able to recognise the funny foreigners easier if we leave the EU as they will be a different colour.

"Net migration has fallen from the peak levels seen in 2015 and 2016 and has remained broadly stable since."

...........

Is that what you do with the rich or better off than you that you dislike ??? ... See a nice suit , hear a posh voice and to t''other side of road ya go

Well I would be pretty stuffed if what you were saying was remotely true. Most people I know are considerably more wealthy than me and I know a lot of posh people. I dunno where you get this idea from that I dont like wealthy posh people. Ive been surrounded by them all my life.

Its prolly the same place you get the idea that Brexit voters are racist or insinuate they are ... As in " At least you will be able to spot them easier and cross the road" ... [b[Those posh people youve been surrounded by all your life do you call em the names you call Mr Rees Mogg for being posh and wealthy ??? ... Thought not princess

Go figure

Well lets start with the fact that he is on record of stating that Abortion should be illegal even in the case of Rape, he also is opposed to Gay Marriage, climate change denier; voted against a bankers’ bonus tax, wants to repeal the Human rights act, defends zero hour contracts and pretty much wants to deregulate workers rights post Brexit, (Ooops sorry thats Brexit related), attended and spoke at a racist far right group dinner (Although he later tried to disassociate himself with them), wants a law passed that all Somerset council workers should wear bowler hats.

Will that do for starters?

Your right though, that my main reason for disliking him (as if thats not enough) is his selfish reasons for promoting a hard Brexit. He cares not one jot about the likes of you or your family. Its people like him that have ruined the Tory party and trying to lead it down a very dark path.

As for refugees, I have constantly said I dont think they should all be dumped in the same areas and all I have asked is that we take our fair share of genuine asylum seekers who are genuinely fleeing war zones.

Hes a Catholic and believes that any child conceived during a rape should not be punished by death for the crimes that have gone before ... Its not a position I take but I salute him for being brave enough to be honest with his opinion , In many parts of the Muslim world you love so victims of rape are stoned to death so hes hardly going anywhere near that is he ... His religious beliefs mean he believes that marriage is between a man and a woman and the children that may bring , gays as far as I know cant have children together so therefore he is against gay marriage but not against gays themselves and has never said such ... Strange you deplore him for his view on gay marriage yet never mention how you deplore Islam for hating gays full stop , really strange that one ... Hes a climate change sceptic Barry not your Hollywood headline "denier" ... Like him I believe climate change isnt all down to naughty old us and much of it is a natural change thats happened umpteen times before ... The dinner he had he apologised for and has made it very clear it was a mistake , strange you dont condemn Corbyn for the stuff hes done ... The rest of it is just guff ... So to be fair I still dont get why you hate him as an individual so much but I guess it has more to do with his wealth and his posh accent than anything else ... The refugees do get dumped in the same areas Barry its a fact and you and I both know it so therefore those people you claim to care for and who dont want em still get em while you in your caring way have none in your village or what could be even more caring in your own home

Ive explained the reasons I dont like him Antony but you still seem to think oddly its about his wealth and posh accent which I think is just a pi$$ poor attempt to get a rise out of me. I like Richard Branson, he is considerably more wealthy than Smuggy. I have a liking of Posh Totty Antony who speak like the Queen so I dont think the accent puts me off although unlike you I dont find JRM attractive. Im all for capitalism and success Antony just not at the selfish expense of others and definitely not from people who are masquerading as public servants to feather their nests.

Well my friend in your own words your explanation to why you detest him is pi$$ poor ... What proof you have I'd love to see regarding his self interest in making money off the public while masquerading as a public servant and I did say proof not Barry Hollywood headlines

"Net migration has fallen from the peak levels seen in 2015 and 2016 and has remained broadly stable since."

https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulationandcommunity/populationandmigration/internationalmigration/bulletins/migrationstatisticsquarterlyreport/august2018

...........

I wonder if you'd feel the same about Moggy if he were a Remoaner? ............Somehow I doubt it ...............

I would still find his views Abhorrent but lets face it someone like him would never be a "Remoaner" would he?

Why would I single him out over someone like David Davis or Michael Gove for example? Davis is a Brexiteer but I dont hold the same views about him. I dont think he is self serving or Abhorrent, he's just an idiot. I dont think Govey is self serving either and I dont think he is an idiot, he is just wrong although I think he is wavering. Smuggy is a self serving Dickensian sh1t bag. You know that but just wont admit it.

Nope ... You've previously posted your view on his get rich quick plan regarding Brexit without showing a dot of evidence to back up that's why he's a Brexiteer ... Having a view which is your right doesn't mean your correct but you have a habit of passing your view off as fact

I wont requote Antony as its getting ridiculously long now but it depends how much evidence you think you need. I am as certain that I am correct about Smuggy as I am the sun will rise tomorrow but I Cannot prove that it will. Its pretty likely that it will and all the evidence to suggest it will rise in the morning is there but I Cannot prove it.

Will you feel better about it if in the future I add IMO after everything I post on here? Smuggy is a self serving sh1t bag that is backing Brexit for his own personal gain and that of his investors (IMO). Most of the ERG if you drill down through their backgrounds and the other jobs a lot of them have are similar (IMO). There is a pattern. (IMO)

Oh Dear.

Bad news for Daily Mail Brexiteers.

"The Daily Mail has backed Theresa May’s plans for a soft Brexit and described Conservative MPs plotting to oust the prime minister during the negotiations with the EU as “traitors”.

Geordie Greig, a former remain supporter who took over as editor from the arch-Brexiter Paul Dacre last week, appears to be shifting the newspaper’s editorial tone towards support for Downing Street’s Chequers plan."

https://www.theguardian.com/media/2018/sep/13/daily-mail-backs-theresa-may-brexit-plan-conservative-mps-traitors

Who will they post links from now? The Mail goes all "Right on". Who would have thunk it?

Traitors!! Enemies of the People!!! Lock em up!

They have a big readership.

I don't mind anyone's opinion Barry in fact I welcome difference of opinion what I don't care for is passing off an opinion repeatedly as fact and especially when that opinion passed off as fact blackens someone's character in claiming he's out to wreck the country through Brexit for his own financial gain ... Yet you can't by your own admission present a shred of evidence to back that claim up ... IMO that's not very nice

Not very nice! Give over!! Do you think I might hurt his feelings? Awwwww. Poor little diddy Jacob. Im sure he will survive, unfortunately.

You dont have to search very hard to find similar "opinions".

Rees-Mogg’s hedge fund, Somerset Capital Management, is managed via subsidiaries in the tax havens of the Cayman Islands and Singapore. He has defended the use of such tax havens, saying “I do not believe people have any obligation to pay more tax than the law requires.” And the laws that look set to stand in the way are planned new EU regulations aimed at governing the behaviour of companies such as his own.

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2018/jul/24/no-deal-brexit-poorer-jacob-rees-mogg-dividend

https://www.theneweuropean.co.uk/top-stories/brexit-is-about-the-rich-rees-moggs-of-britain-not-anyone-else-1-4896702

I could go on, there are many similar theories. Arron Banks even owned up to it!

Why do so many super rich tax avoiders, investment and hedge funders want such a hard Brexit do you think Antony? Do you suppose its because they are worried about an over stretched NHS, Blue passports or too many immigrants or is it because they stand to own a bigger piece of the pie, avoid new EU tax legislation and make a fortune from disaster capitalism?

I don't think any of us need a history lesson regarding his business interests Barry ... Regarding his tax affairs has he broken the law ??? If so please post up when/where/how much he swindled ... Those big companies in the big sticks you used to work for when you were earning loads of lolly (which is somehow different for you to earn) you don't think they paid as little tax as legally possible or did they just quite willingly pay top dollar tax ???

Oh dont get me wrong Antony all of us Business men yourself included I imagine want to pay as little tax as possible and I am sure the company I worked for did the same. As long as its legal and above board no problem. The difference is I am not abusing a position of power as an MP and a well known one at that to steer in a hard Brexit to further feather my nest at the expense of the very people I am supposed to represent. What smuggy does with his money and how he earns it is up to him as long as its legal. Good luck to him and I admire anyone who has made a wad but when your money making plans abuse your roll as an MP and are at the expense of the rest of the populace then it needs exposing and stopping.

I think the Daily Mail should now be the new voice of Anti Brexit seeing as its now changed sides. What a respectable paper its become. The gammons in the basement are revolting.

Jacob Reek Smugs hard brexit group is being investigated over allegations of a secret bank account and the allegation are that they are using these undeclared funds to campaign against the chequers plan of the government.

Not declaring funds used for political purposes is very iffy legally and morally.

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-6165995/Rees-Moggs-hard-Brexit-group-probed-secret-bank-account.html

I am shocked. They look like such a nice respectable group of people the ERG Dont they. All trustworthy and committed to serving the countries best interest.

Mark Carney mentioning that the younger generation will be able to get affordable homes after Brexit was good news to most, but bad news to the buy to rent investors.

Can you post a link to where Carney said 'the younger generation will be able to get affordable homes after Brexit'
The report I read quoting him as saying house prices could fall up to 35% which is not the same thing.
If it was just a fall in house prices it could be a good thing. Many would vote for that If it was a fall in house prices caused by relaxing planning restrictions and increasing housing supply I would be all in favour of that.
But I fear people are not seeing what would cause ithe Brexit house price crash.
Unemployment ... Inflation...High Interest Rates leading to reposession with negative equity..increased homelessness...banking crisis etc which lead to the last financial crisis and astronomically expensive taxpayer funded bank bailouts.
In the Brexit house prices crash prices would fall because those who need them couldn't get gthe money to buy them. The housing and housing benefit crisis would be even worse.

Good to see you in favour of a socialist government. Norway's Sovereign Wealth Fund is made up from their take on North Sea Oil invested for the long-term benefit of its citizens. Maggie used the same one off windfall to reduce tax to corporations and high net worth individuals.

And its buying up GB assets because they are so cheap due to the strength of the pound since the referendum.

https://www.theguardian.com/business/live/2019/mar/19/uk-unemployment-wages-report-house-prices-economy-brexit-sterling-business-live

"NEWSFLASH: The UK unemployment report has been released early - a highly unusual development for such market-moving data.

And it shows that Britain’s jobless rate has hit a new 44-year low of just 3.9%, down from 4% last month.

That’s the lowest level since January 1975, when Harold Wilson was prime minister.

The number of people unemployed in the UK fell by 35,000 in the last quarter, to 1.338m.

And the employment rate has hit a new record high too, of 76.1% in the three months to January. That’s up from 75.7% in the previous quarter.

****This suggests the UK labour market hasn’t been hurt by all the Brexit uncertainty.****"
