It is then easy to clean the internal workings and the cassette with a mix of soapy water and bleach then leave open until dryed out. Edited by Don636 2020-04-14 7:59 PM

Thank you in advance. Barrie I believe the toilet in your Hymer motorhome is the Thetford type shown in the attached image. There’s some information on the following link that might be useful https://www.caravanvlogger.co.uk/thetford-toilet-cassette-maintenance/ and it will be seen that Thetford markets a “Cassette Tank Cleaner” fluid. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QwS5VC0wh-c As Don has said, it should be possible to gain access to the cassette’s interior fairly easily, but that should not be necessary for simple internal cleaning. (I would suggest that - unless there’s something wrong with the cassette’s operating mechanism or seals - dismantling should be avoided.) Thetford’s advice nowadays would (unsurprisingly) be to use their own cleaning product. Historically Thetford recommended a citric acid solution (which is what I use) but alternatve methods have been found to be effective. For example https://forums.outandaboutlive.co.uk/forums/Motorhomes/Motorhome-Matters/Thetford-Cassette-Cleaning-Report-Back-/13585/ and there is plenty more discussion about this issue on-line https://tinyurl.com/yac2nvql (It goes without saying that the more frequently the toilet is used and the less regularly cassette-cleaning is carried out, the greater the build up of ‘scale’ will be within the cassette.) Only concession i make is to squirt a bit of the red stuff around the bowl which works for us
