Pretty shocking stuff. Sounds like exploitation has been going on there for many years. Could well explain why there is a spike. Telling workers to keep quiet about a positive result and ordering them into work is criminal. They should go to jail for that for sure.

I heard a personal account on another forum of a members son who is being forced back to work while they are still on Furlough. Maybe its more common than we realise.

Also explains why illegal immigrants pass through EU countries to get here.
Sweatshops employing illegal immigrants certainly wouldn't last long in France.
They would have to pay the minimum wage for a start, so would have little incentive to employ illegals.
Especially when they are far more likely to get a visit from a factory inspector.

And yet the Mad Hatter still manages to blame illegal immigration on the EU

I think it shows whats spreading the virus.
Certainly not me allegedly breaching the lockdown by overnighting in a motor home.
The next big spike will come when they re open the pubs
That looks like a sure recipe for virus transmission to me

You were doing well until you brought up your illegal lock down jaunt again. Quit while your (not) ahead. You dont know if you spread the virus or not. How many different shops, water taps, bins etc did you use. For all you know you could have spread it without knowing or catching it just by touching different items all over the country. Point is even if you didnt you increased the risk unnecessarily.

As for illegal immigrants in sweat shops. I see that increasing rather than decreasing because of Brexit and a struggling economy. Sounds like taking back control of our borders is not going to be a thing. Looks like Johnsons plan is just to let everything (and everyone) through as normal in the hope that the EU will just do the same.

That flew out the window once Commander 'Covid' Cummings infamous jolly jaunt off up north became known whose wife still hasn't explained how the article she wrote after returning home to London, made absolutely zero mention of it or how such a sick person unable to get out of bed for ten days, was able to jump in a car and drive 250 miles!

No one knows for sure.
But its probably because BAME population more likely to live in overcrowded housing, work in illegal sweatshops etc
In England, most property is inherited like you have - nothing to do with how clever you are or how hard you work or you wouldn't have got what you have. So, their hard work often does not get them decent housing.
Another possibility is vitamin D deficiency - the body makes vitamin D with sunlight, which black people get less of through their darker skin - more suited to sunnier countries.

Apparently benefits (not furlough) intended to help small businesses, some unscrupulous people have used it to fund their own personal lifestyles with leisure toys.

Stop making EXCUSES for your Brexit HYPOCRISY.

It's not an excuse though is it Dumb Dumb ........

Of course it is. When you lot aren't U-turning you're making EXCUSES because you're a bunch of HYPOCRITES. You've never accepted responsibility or accountability for all the cock-ups you lot keep making and always blame others.

I only asked whether Dishy Rishi should be throwing our money at Betting shops.
Most are owned by well capitalised chains that don't need our money, so can stay in bushiness without it.
But even if a few betting shops close - does it matter?

Given that we are one of the G7 economies, then its pretty bleedin obvious that our slump will be big coz our economy is big ..........

BTW we are are already out off recession ..........

UK GDP grew by 6.6% in July 2020

Yes odd that isnt it?

I believe we were told that a raft of new trade deals would be ready to go when we left.

All lined up they were supposed to be for when we left. What have we got so far Dave? Maybe you missed the question.

I'll have to answer it for him
What have we got so far
Well from our closest Ally
No chance of a trade deal
.. and now the Tories have taken to slagging him off on Twitter
All so BoJo can tear up an international treaty he signed
https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2020/sep/17/angry-tory-mps-reject-joe-biden-comments-uk-eu-brexit-talks
As I recall, the last European populist right winger who pretended to be a bit of a socialist to win an election with a minority of the votes, and then started tearing up international treaties, was Adolf Hitler

"Who needs trade with the EU"

Exactly .........

There are another 165 countries in the world ........

How many countries has Johnson negotiated new trade deals with?

Japan ..........

I asked you how many countrieS......not countrY. Not doing very well are you?

We are doing better than EU ........

How many years did they take to agree a deal with Japan? .........

4 years .........

Coz....."After four years of grueling negotiations, the EU's landmark trade deal with Japan boiled down to one intractable issue: soft cheese."

https://www.politico.eu/article/big-in-japan-how-the-eu-pulled-off-its-largest-trade-deal-negotiations-tokyo-phil-hogan-cecilia-malmstrom-agriculture/

Looks like the Japenese prefer Stilton to softy EU cheese .......

That was the benefit of remaining in the EU. Deals are not done in an afternoon like one of your Brexit clot-heads claimed. As you found you couldn't come up with anything other than one country you're now cooing about yet is it any better to the one we had when in the EU? Not really.

"There's no great evidence that having these different digital provisions is going to make a huge difference ... it's fine, it's good but it's nothing major," he said.

"It's something they (the UK government) can do that is different to the EU, but the evidence of it making a great amount of difference is not high."

The deal with Japan isnt "Done" just like Brexit was never "done". They have simply agreed in principle a roll over deal for what we have already via the EU. It is all yet to be signed and it sounds like we are contradicting ourselves with Japan over the State aid rules. I think a few more roll overs have been agreed but not many.

Truth is, our biggest trading partners are the EU and the USA. We are putting both in severe jeopardy. Roll over deals were signed with African countries and places like Australia, New Zealand and Canada have expressed interest, as has India as long as they get free movement of people . The entire continent of Africa's economy is less than that of France. The others are no great hill of beans either.

Face facts. Unless you have the EU and USA on board we are basically fecked.

Do you not read your own links?

"The UK-Japan Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement was agreed in principle by Ms Truss and Japan's foreign minister, Motegi Toshimitsu, in a video call on Friday morning.

Negotiations began in June - with most talks happening remotely due to the coronavirus pandemic.

A final text of the agreement is likely to be published in October!"

There is no trade deal yet just a political agreement in principle. Its not even news in Japan or on their governments website.

It should be easy to do though as its just a roll over deal from the one we had with Japan via the EU. However the deal with Japan commits us to tougher restrictions on state aid than the ones we are currently offering the EU in the Brexit talks, potentially undermining our negotiating position with Brussels.

Its just another distraction bigged up by Johnson and the Express. The two trade deals we really need are with the EU and the USA (good luck with that), and Johnson is putting both in jeopardy.
