  1. Treat it like a first date, start off slowly don’t expect too much, don’t let it labour or it will moan feed regular with oil and water if needed  Make sure wheels are pumped up, nuts are tight, don’t let idle when cold and slow down gently. Best of all enjoy!!

  2. Possibly take a photo of you holding a daily newspaper with the date clearly showing with you stood at your front door with the house number in view or by a public building etc. at least that will be some evidence of you not being in the Schengen  Zone. Have your ferry receipt etc.

    We had some fun last Wed, we sailed from Cherbourg on the 21:30 ferry /Tuesday arriving in Poole the following morning. We had arrived in France on the morning of 23 rd Feb so we had been in France for 90 days the day we left so keeping within the 90 day rules. The French passport counted the days twice and had another person check but we were correct. Phew!!

  3. If you have anyone local who does wrapping they might come up with something. It’s a crap Idea along with the idea of using lots of sticky Velcro to hold up cupboard backing, I have had to renew all of mine as well as the trims in the rear bedroom as every time I went over a bump they fell of. For so called German quality mine should never have left the factory. By the time it was delivered (brand new) to me it had an unaccounted 420 miles on it, had been involved in an accident and poorly repair and no end of problems. The cooker when installled of made at the factory had been lined up incorrectly and the tails of the gas pipes have sheared off it leaked whilst we were asleep luckily I started to be sick and woke up. All I got from Burstner was it is out of warranty tough luck. Never again

  4. Whatever tuning one might do, remember diesels like plenty of clear air, and clean fuel. Weakest point with the extra torque is the clutch. If on a motorhome that may spend a lot of time standing, check handbrake releases fully, and tyre pressures correct. All add up to efficiency.

  5. The 90/180 rule is nothing to do with the EU it is the Schengen Zone, whilst we were members of the (club) it was not enforced. If you live in any country within the EU you are allowed only 90 days in any other EU country. As the UK is not now part of the EU you are only allowed to spend 90 out of 180 in the Schengen Zone regardless of which country or countries you spend the time in.

  6. I have a different take on this

     

    The only reason for a B2B charger is if you have a smart alternator, as a Smart alternator is ECU controlled you are not able to add an unknown discharge current, as this could damage the alternator and the ECU. Without a B2B it could also spike the house batteries with a voltage higher than 14.6v which is not ideal. The main aim of a B2B is to fool the ECU into thinking there is a charge current needed by the vehicle battery, this charge current can then be used by the house battery.

     

    The only advice is not to run the engine on tickover to charge depleted batteries for more than 15 mins as the Alternator could get hot.

     

    The first comment insinuates that a B2B chargers have the capacity to stop a Lithium battery accepting a charge. This is simply not the case as there is no data transfer between the B2B and battery BMS. Even if you had a B2B you would still have to rely on the battery BMS to switch off the ‘allow to charge’ function when the battery is fully charged, a B2B is not capable of doing this. By installing a Cyrix and a battery protect we are performing all necessary features of a B2B at a far lower cost.

     

    In answer to the 2nd statement. If you tried to regulate the amp draw from an alternator by reducing the cable size it would simply melt the cable, the cable sizing in my installation will allow the safe transfer of available power. As I mentioned before there has never been an issue with these systems damaging alternators.

     

    Point to note these are not cheap batteries with a cheap BMS and are capable of accepting a C1 charge and carry a ten year warranty. All the other equipment fitted carries a five year warranty. Try looking on the Transporter batteries website

  7. We off grid a lot in the winter (hopefully) down to Portugal, with this set up we will or should be able to run the hab air con. We also have a Dometic cx35freezer which runs at -18c. Admittedly not much chance of needing it during the winter but in the summer of 2020 we were glad of it.

    Having had Tom fit our underslung gas tank and was very impressed with the standard of work. Also when discussing the Lithium set up it was clear to me they are very knowledgeable.

    • Victron battery protects for the charge and loads

    • Victron Cerbo control system

    • Victron BMV battery shunt

    • 2 x Transporter Energy batteries

     

    these batteries carry a ten year warranty. So will see how it goes, it should be an improvement on 2 x 95 amp AGM’s and a 100 watt panel.

  9. You will need app 26 amps @ 12 volt d.c. to produce 1 amp @ 240 volt a.c. And kill your batteries. And running you engine on tickover for an hour is not good for it. I used to run my inverter from the engine battery, this allowed me to run the onboard charger whilst driving which gave a good rate of charge. But I wouldn’t recomend it for what you are contemplating.
