phantom
Hi all our fridge works great when static and on the level but poor on the move especially around hilly countryside and so the temperature rises. We are concerned that this may lead to dangers in the food safety department with cold meats and raw chicken etc. We have a plain cool box but had thought that an 12v one might just do the trick. Any suggestions or recommendations? Appreciate all ideas. Thanks Phantom
Wingpete
If your fridge is the typical m/home or caravan model, it ought to keep working when on the move. Usually this is via the battery but can be achieved using the gas supply if problems exist, temporarily. In either case, the fridge is made to keep food chilled when on the road. colin
Sounds like you may have a caravan fridge not motorhome type, if you post model someone may know. Electric cool boxes work fine, but don't leave switched on with engine turned off unless you have 'power managment module' as they draw about 5amps and will flaten battery, Towsure and CAK sell them as proboly many places, a few years back I brought one from Halfords in autumn at half price B-)
machinehead
The thing to remember is that your fridge will NOT cool on 12volts when driving. You have to cool it down first on gas or mains electric. After this the 12 volt will only maintain the low temperature but will never cool it down. So it's probably working OK. I usually hook up at the house before a trip to cool the fridge and heat the water, plus give the leisure battery a little boost.
