BGD
Don - nothing on the local news here at all to indicate that there might be. BTW, the big Motorhome/Caravan story locally (in the Costa Blanca region) this last week was detailed ownership/paperwork/chassis number checks by Policia Local on caravans parked in several Benidorm area camping sites. Get this: of 120 "Ex-UK" ones checked, 30 (yes, 30 out of 120!!) were found to have been previously stolen. In most cases it seems they are caravans which have been stolen from the UK, brought down to Spain, then sold on here in the Benidorm area as "Private Sale" for cash (by British nationals) to people living here (British, Spanish, and other nationalities, who thought they were buying a Kosher caravan when they parted with their money for it). No arrests yet here as far as I'm aware, but Spanish Police are now liaising with UK Police to trace the history of each of these caravans back "upstream". All the ex-stolen caravans have been impounded by the Policia Local (ie the occupiers have been immediately evicted from them, as they don't in law belong to those buyers at all, but only to the original legitimate owners back in the UK), pending return to their proper owners. Policia Local on Friday: "On the basis of our astonishing findings from last weeks spot checks, many more checks are expected in future at sites right across the region". ......so make sure your Van/caravan is totally NOT dodgy in any way if you bring it down this way. myshell
I only live a couple of miles from Lancashire Constabulary H.Q. and 1 of my neighbours went to Spain following a tip off about stolen caravans, apparently in 3 days they found more than 30 stolen caravans worth around £750,000. Lancs police officers, the Guardia Civil and insurance investigators visited 2 large sites on the outskirts of Benidorm including Camping Villamar, they checked out 120 holiday homes and found that 1 in 4 had been stolen, Det Sgt Simon Ingham of Lancs police's stolen vehicle squad said that of the 730 (yes! seven hundred and thirty)caravans reported stolen in the U.K. last year, 127 of them were from Lancashire. Anyone want to buy a 4 bedroom detached bungalow in a lovely little village, 2 miles away from Lancs police H.Q. ?
