I have a Marano 595 which is just a year old, and some time ago noticed that the 'paintwork' along the top of the lower panels on the body sides was bl;istering. The vehicle is one of those with differing colour body sides to the loower panels, in my case Silver sides and Burnt orange panels. The latter are bolted on, and contain several exterenal locker access doors.

There appears to be a 'lip' along the top of these panels, and very soon after purchasing the vehicle we noticed this apparent 'blistering' for much of the lengthof the lip,on both sides of the motorhome .I

t's almost as if rust had set in, although we understand these panels cant actually rust!

We took it up with the dealers, and they are replacing all these panels under warranty - in fact they and Burstner, have been very helpful, and accepted there was a problem. It's quite a long job, and it's booked in for a week for this work to be done in October.

I'm not sure how many Burstner models have this style of construction, but certainly all the 2007 Marano range do ,and maybe some other models. I wonder if any other owners of these have either experienced similar blistering, or perhaps would like to look at their motorhomes and check out if there is any indication of this.

If you have had such a problem, has this been resolved OK? Would be interested to hear your comments, and also of any other problems which have occured on Burstner models?.

Hi keith

I have a 2007 Solano t700 same colours not that I have the problem described but I have tried without sucess to find the RAL numbers for both colours but as usual Burstner never never answer e mails so during all this if you know the RAL number please let me know.

My nearest dealer is 120 miles in Sevilla so a long ride for touch up paint.

A couple of years back I wanted a colour match for a Burstner, and contacted Burstner UK.  They, in turn contacted the factory.  The colour code I was quoted was NCS, which is a Swedish system, and not RAL.  I was told by my nearest Burstner dealer than they had never been able to get actual paint from Burstner (complications with small quantities of flammables on ferries or tunnel, they said), and had always gone to a local car repair bodyshop, who mix a matching colour by eye.  I eventually bottomed the NCS code (references had changed since the number quoted by Burstner, due to adopting water based paints in lieu of solvent based) and got some mixed by a local paint factor.  It is now possible to get single aerosols of special colours, subject only to a minimum quantity that is dictated by the smallest amount of pigment the mixing machine can dispense.

I think a good local car colour mixer may be a simpler solution for you.  They'll use a colour card to get close, and then "doctor" it with a bit more of one or two pigments to refine the match.  Good luck.

Hi Brian

Thanks for that it had been my intention do have a touch up aerosol made when in England in Aug/Sep I had hoped to go armed with a RAL number but looks like I will have to resort to matching by eye.

I might try taking a part to B&Q the bigger stores have a spectrometer wich can give the RAL number

While one can be reasonably optimistic that the paint finish on the base-vehicle part of a motorhome will last well, this doesn't appear to be the case for the conversion components. I suspect that the reasons for this lie in the materials employed (GRP and aluminium) that require specialised painting techniques, plus (when the motorhome converters carry out the painting themselves) limited investment in equipment and worker training.

Hobby particularly has had (and continues to have) a patchy reputation for deteriorating paintwork on motorhomes, which is not good news for Hobby owners as a multi-hued tarty look is what these designs are all about. There's a tale of woe on the MHF forum, where a Hobby owner's vehicle had a massive paintwork problem that revealed itself shortly after the 2-year conversion warranty had expired. The link is given below and it's interesting reading:

I also have the blistering on my 07 solano, silver with orange skirts. The dealer ordered the skirts from burstner, unfortunately it is not the skirts that are blistered, its the 'rails' that the skirts are fixed to. Am still waiting for a call to go back and have them done.

  • 2 weeks later...

Does the blistering look anything like the attached photo? My Rotec 560 developed this defect 7 months within purchase. It has been a nightmare to deal with as my dealership went into Administration in April, and therefore nothing has been done.

I am currently "Rejecting the Vehicle" as unfit for purpose. The 2 routes of repair that have been suggested by Independent dealers are both unacceptable as they cannot be fully guaranteed to resolve the fault in the long term. The repairs will also devalue the vehicle. As both the dealer and the importers are claiming no liability, my only option now is to claim under the Consumer Credit Act.

TEC have lost a major UK service/dealer network which has caused me no end of distress. Whilst they have offered to undertake free repairs in Germany, this would be at my own expense to travel and stay for a week!

I am amazed to read of the number of other owners experiencing these problems. It really is about time the issue was reported and challenged in the National media. I for one, am doing my utmost to circulate my own experiences in order to bring about a full enquiry.
