PSHORT Posted July 22, 2008 Posted July 22, 2008 We are contemplating the addition on the Fiamma Privacy panels(cost£473) to our FI Fiamma wind-out awning. We currently use a self standing awning but is a pain to erect and despite practice still looks a bit untidy on the van(M0RELLO) awning interface. I realise the drive away facility goes but are there advantages over self standing? Also what is the rigidity like in inclement weather. Are the easier to erect? Any comments most welcome.
breakaleg Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 Hi, i have never used one, but they always seem to be for sale second hand. (mayby that says a lot) pete
w1ntersun Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 I have just bought one after seeing one at cabo de gato this winter. It withstood galeforce winds better that any caravan awning Richard
rossko Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 We bought one 3 months ago & can now put it up from scratch in an hour & take it down & pack away in 20 mins so use it every time we go away for 2 nights or more. Withstood wind ok this weekend but is a bit noisey at night sometimes if it whaps!!! John Cross were really helpful & gave us best price with next day delivery. We are still trying to think of some way to decorate it a bit though as it is a bit plain. Any ideas welcome. Hope you enjoy & find it useful. We were told at the weekend that Brownhills at Newark had a s/h one in for around £200 but don't know what size it was
rostro Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 we have the fiamma zip system and find if we are somewhere for a couple of days it is invaluable to us as we have 2 large dogs so have a good cover etc over the side of the van. great for keeping our chairs in overnight . we find even if its a bit damp we can wipe them and put them away under the canopy and just fold them and store under a seat. we did buy the fiamma tie down kit for about £9 which gives just a bit more secutiry against the wind but all in all wouldnt be with out it and we can now et iy up in about 20 mins...forgot we also bought a small pair of steps as we couldn.t reach to put it up.
panagah Posted July 23, 2008 Posted July 23, 2008 Each ot their own i guess. I have just sold mine yesterday. It was to heavy, to much of a problem to put it up for the ammount of time we stay somewhere. When staying longer periods we could not use the van we would need to dismantle it. Have now brought a movelite xl drivaway awniing. Its easy to errect, leaves the van moveable and gives more space. The one thing I do like is the wind out cannopy. If we are only stopping a nigt then its really handy.
PSHORT Posted July 24, 2008 Author Posted July 24, 2008 Many thanks for your replies, am still in two minds as we do find the flapping at night on the Fiamma wind out a bit much. We do not get the same effect with our exisitng stand alone awning.
