Please tell me

When is it ok for men to wear gold.

Against all my protests my wife has gone and bought me a quiet expensive matching gold necklace and bracelet.

Dont want to be a chav so when can I wear them without everyone sneering at me behind my back, I normally never wear anything jewelery other than our wedding ring

Syd, I hardly think anyone is going to call you a chav for wearing a chain (unless it's a Mr T type), my hubby wears a chain he bought in Turkey all the time, the matching bracelet gets bought out for "posh" nights out.

Stay away from the Burbury, baseball cap and white tracksuits though.

I personally do not like any jewellery at all. So I have some understanding of what you must be going through. I would not be comfortable wearing a bracelet or necklace at any time.

If it were me I would sit down with my wife and say as much.

Difficult I grant you.

But the only way I see forward.

Hi Donna

I NEVER but NEVER wear any of the above items, as Clive has said shall have to try and explain to Jan why Im not wearing the gold.

Might say i'm saving it for the special occasion

Oh dear, Syd - you might be opening up a can of worms with that excuse.

What if she arranges a really special occasion, but you don't feel it's appropriate to wear the 'bling'?

Hi Syd, many years ago my wife bought me a silver identity bracelet and I dutifully wore it for a while but it was not practical to wear it at work so I finally stopped putting it on. After a while she did mention that "you no longer wear your bracelet, why?" so I said I just don't think to put it on very often and anyway I'm not really the jewelry type. After a brief pout she understood and its been in the drawer ever since. Explain to your wife why you don't feel comfortable wearing jewelry and I'm sure she'll understand.................................. eventually. ;-)

I'm also on the side of the chaps on this: Not a jewellery person at all.

Not practical, looks (to me) rather silly, and I just keep thinking why waste good money on useless and awfully gaudy bangles and baubles.

If your objective is to make yourself appear more attractive to the opposite gender, I imagine there are more effective ways to spend that money............classier clothers, gym membership, tummy tuck, boob job, facelift etc etc etc (for either gender!).

OH wears a medic alert tag - he spent ages trying to decide which was least irritating way to do it - opted for magnetic neck chain - imo not that noticeable

- but then the whole point of bling is that it is noticeable - innit

so - if the jewellery is subtle - wear whatever you fel comfortable with - but don't forget that it can get caught - and probably won't snap in time to prevent injury - so be careful - whatever you decide ;-)

Oh Syd - I didn't realise that you had already put a picture of yourself on the internet.

Hmmm it does look a bit dodgy....

That cannot be me, he is far better looking than I have ever been.

I have decided, argument or not, I am not wearing it.

Unless she insists that is.

Don't do it Syd !

You'll be on a slippery slope.

Earrings for Xmas.

...and next birthday ... maybe even a nose ring !

You really must put your foot down NOW.

( That's if she doesn't mind ).

Not into lies but if you have a hobby that entails fiddly bits and leaning over ..... 8-) ..... explain it is dangerous and could get caught in your fiddly bits so you dont want to endanger them.... ;-)

Could you not just give the bracelet a try, and see how you go, perhaps then you can compromise over the necklace, you never know she may fancy you so much in your new jewlery you may not have to keep them on for long. Carol. :D
