crazyplums Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 hello all i have a problem with an awning that i bought some time ago on trying to fit it to the van i have found that the bead will not fit into the channel as its to big/thick to go though it . is there anything on the market that i can use to sort this problem out its a doreema awning its the right size for the van but its just the bead that wont fit
howie Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 Don't think there is much you can do about it Crazyplums. The 'Foxwell' front panel I bought has three different sized beads, but this is to accomodate the various size rails on the front of awnings such as Fiamma or Omnistor. Obviously the bead on your Doreema was intended for a different size rail and is never going to fit. Changing the rail is not impossible, but perhaps you could have the awning modified by somewhere like www.tentrepairs.com who may be able to help.
Derek Uzzell Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 crazyplums: The logical thing to do would be to seek advice from Dorema (www.dorema.co.uk) and a few awning specialists. However, as howie says, it's difficult to see how you will be able to fit your awning satisfactorily without either having its existing bead replaced or replacing the awning rail.
Klyne Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 Have you tried any form of lubrication! Rubbing a candle onto the bead of the awning gives it a helping hand. Most modern vans have quite a large section awning rail so its likely the beading is a bit stiff because its new. David
howie Posted July 31, 2008 Posted July 31, 2008 Not to good on web searches, but is it possible there's a tool that could be inserted into the rail to open it up enough to take the doreema bead. Once repaired a damaged section on our caravan rail using just a pair of pinchers and gently levering outwards. Finished result was good, and if there's not to much of a difference between the rail and beading then might be worth a try if only starting at a small section either end to see how it goes.
